Windows 7/Server 2008 Progress Bars

Thread Starter
i have made 2 progress bars that will replace the defualt green bars in aero. although there is nothing wrong with the green ones that windows offers you, it sort of comes to personal preference whether or not if a person would want to change them or not. the ones that i have made comes in 2 flavors and they are OCN blue and monochrome grey. i have found 2 other colors red and blue and although i could of just repacked them and sold them off as my own, i felt that isn't right and while still on that subject, is just down right sleezy.

i have been using the grey one's for quite some time now and it matches my windows server 2008 r2 scheme very well. the logon screen is grey, the defualt wallpaper is grey, and i felt the overall areo scheme should match it as well.

since this is overclock.net, i decided to make an OCN blue scheme as well for anyone interested.

for those wondering what gets changed while using my modified aero is this. the bar when you install something, the taskbar progess bar, the HD bar, IE/firefox bar. as far as other browsers i dont know since i only tested with ie/firefox. there may be other places as well but off the top of my head those are the only places that comes to mind.

i have packed them as RAR so an unzipping app will be needed. i have also packed the IMAGE folder to show you what has been changed.

here is what the grey looks like:

other notes:

before anything is done, i would suggest backing up the original aero at: C:\Windows\Resources\Themes\aero.

it should be a common practice to backing up system files when modifieing or altering them.

1. UXstyle will be needed for using a modified aero to work. you can get that here: http://www.uxstyle.com/

2. i have noticed on windows server 2008 r2 the installing of uxstyle throws an error, atleast on mine it did, so my fix around that was to install Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package and then i installed uxstyle with no problems.

3. takeownership batch file will be needed or you can do it through cmd prompt. either way is fine. i use the batch file since its easier. the file you will need to take ownership is at this location: C:\Windows\Resources\Themes\aero

4. after uxstyle is installed you can then alter areo by switching to classic or windows basic, back up the original and or rename it. just keep it safe if anything should happen. and then just copy and paste the modified aero to the same location.

your are more then welcome to alter my modified aero to your own liking. all you need is resource hacker or restorator 2007.

comments and or critique are welcomed as well. i hope you like them.
