Ultra X4 PSU Series ???

Thread Starter
Asking since I hear indifferent or bad comments on the Ultra line of PSU's lately. But based on my previous thread in this section I came to the conclusion that I should keep my eye out for worthwhile GPU upgrades.

Reason I am asking about the Ultra X4 line? Because they are fully modular - which caught my attention and makes cable management easier since I would have ZERO cables that would need hiding.

There are 2 of them on sale in the marketplace and I figure a little bit of overkill for my wife's rig, a new modular for my rig and moving my Antec to my Father in Laws rig would make for safer clocking (considering that once I upgrade back to an SLI setup I also plan on upgrading both of their machines to SLI as well)

So what are thoughts on the Ultra x4's? Specifically the 1200W and the 1050W?

IDK it just depends. My ULTRA LSP650 has been powering my AMD rig for 2.5 years no problems. It went poof Saturday afternoon. I'm still awaiting a forum response regarding ULTRA's RMA

The X3's are beast. havent heard much about the X4. The RMA service was top notch though. Had an Ultra X Connect 500w that died during a thunderstorm, they sent me an X3 1000w PSU. It was the cheapest modular one they had in stock. Ended up selling that to someone on this forum.

Pretty much same situation for me..had an issue that was not build related with a lesser X3 and they sent me an X3 1000w. Customer service is nice but I don't know the verdict on X4's.

i think the 1050w is great psu if you can find it for $100-$125, my brother has it in his machine and he has 2x GTX 570 and a 4ghz i7 and has had no issues.. he games like all day lol

oh yeah, their service is great too, he had an X3 that had a dead fan and instead of replacing it, Ultra sent him an X4

Do they do RMA via just serial number or is proof of purchase required?

I think you need original invoice/receipt alongside it. They wouldn't RMA an LS350 without the tigerdirect invoice for me.

X4 700W and lower are fine. Anything higher is mediocre to crap. For instance, the 1050W might make a decent, oh, 900W? And the 1600W was never sent to a competent reviewer after the 1050W was trashed, any guesses as to why?

Just avoid Ultra. If you want full modularity look at the Silverstone Strider Plus and Strider Gold, SeaSonic X, and Corsair AX.
