P8P67 Pro - Boot Problems

Thread Starter
I posted this in the OS forum but I think it belongs here.

I have a few HDD's in my system and everything was fine until I tried to install XP on an external drive. I would get a BSOD when installing and was told to switch from AHCI to IDE mode in my bios. It worked, but now when I try to boot into my C300 SSD, I get the following message: windows could not start because of a computer hardware configuration problem

I switched back to AHCI but no dice. If I select my C300 from boot options , it does not work. However, if I select my samsung f3, I get 3 windows 7 options. The first takes me into my C300 config, the second to my samsung and the third to my WD750 hdd.

I know all the drives work but I just cannot get windows to boot me straight into my C300 at start up. it worked fine before I tried installing XP on my external hdd. Any thoughts?

Ouch! Personally I would detach all drives except your main Windows 7 boot drive, in ACHI mode. If your C300 is your boot drive, then you might be looking at a format.

Best practice is to install the operating system onto the main SSD without others connected. Shouldn't have to do that, but seems to be the only concrete way of getting it done right.

You shouldn't switch between ACHI and IDE mode if the main operating system is already setup for ACHI, you are guaranteed problems.

I had the same exact situation... I transfered my old SSD and HDDs to my new Sandy Bridge build and kept getting blue screens. Everything led to a HDD or boot error. Spent hours testing my memory and other useless crap; but no cigar. I was just messing with the bios (lulz) and the only way my drives would boot is if I put them into IDE mode. I'm assuming my board shipped with all defective SATA ports... Good luck.
