Why does microsoft hate AMD?

Thread Starter
Seriously I have built quite a few systems throughout the years.. recently however I loath installing windows7 on AMD systems.. They are Really slow to install the OS, and super sluggish until you get the proper drivers installed.

This is not the case with all of the recent intel builds I have done.. It takes my Intel sig rig somewhere around 7min to fully complete the install for windows 7, I just spent about an hour installing on a AMD 255, Asus mobo, 4gb Gskill, 250gb Hdd.. What gives?

Thanks Microsoft for shafting the AMD default windows 7 drivers!

Because everybody uses default drivers with their computer and reinstalls their computer enough to make it matter?

You are also comparing a dual core budget chip to a 920.

ok, when I installed windows 7 on my Pentium 4 3.2ghz single core, 512MB DDR2 RAM, budget rig with an IDE hard drive (for working on data) it installed faster than on a AMD 255,4GB DDR3 RAM, ASUS M4A78LT-M, Sata 250 HDD.

Also I encountered the same windows 7 install slow down on a gigabyte motherboard with an AMD 955, Its microsofts default drivers, build enough computers and you will get it.

I would issue a challenge that if you install windows 7 on a 6core Brand new AMD processor my pentuim 4 would install windows 7 faster because the built in windows 7 drivers are geared towards intel and not AMD. I have been told off by multiple MS employees for promoting AMD at their conferences.

I have never had a problem with it. Plus they are default drivers. who cares about them? I don't know about you, but I don't use default drivers on my computer.

Wasn't there an article someplace talking about how AMD performs better with Microsoft Office products and junk?

He's talking about the initial install time.

Windows 7 is pretty sluggish on my sig rig until I get my video drivers installed.

The video card drivers that come with Windows 7 only work for cards that were around months before the initial release. I don't even have to install drivers for my 4870, but I'm stuck at 800x600 and piss poor performance with my GTX 460.

i tried my brother's 4850 and my father's 5670 in my sig rig and my gtx 460 is way beyond on performance
running 1920*1080 everywhere and having a decent framerate(around 40 in most games)

love how you are guys are talking about crappy performance and stock drivers. I say this once again. Why are you guys using stock drivers for anything other then initial startup?

An wisenos you do know that you are comparing two cards that are in completely different spectrum of performance to your 460.

the 5670 and the 4850 are both really low on the charts compared to the 460.

Installation never took more than 10 mins on the systems I've built.. Both Intel and AMD ones..
