Interesting idea, but it won't work. Study more physics.

I personally run an oil-cooled setup. FWIW, I pump about 10 gallons of oil into a 2x120mm heatercore with a 300GPH pond pump. It works pretty well to keep the oil "cool", but obviously I can't get it below ambient temperature.

To make it really sweet, I could pump the oil through an aquarium chiller (i.e. the ones made for saltwater aquariums). Those are designed to cool tanks of 100+ gallons, so chilling the oil (even if it is warm) would be no problem. The folks at Puget Systems were contacting aquarium supply companies a while back to figure this out. Essentially, you'd be using oil cooling PLUS a TEC. Pretty sweet.

Why not just use the chilled water in a loop with the tank being your res?

Make the back panel of your "tank" out of aluminum and attach a bunch of aluminum heaqtsinks to the inside of the panel to increase surface area, then on the backside of the panel, attach a handful of 50mm TECs and cool the hotside of the TECs with a single waterloop.

Even with 4x undervolted 50mm TECs, you can reach close to -10C, cold enough to easily keep the mineral oil at sub zero temps.

If you choose the right TECs and run them at the right voltage, you can improve C.O.P and keep power usage under down too.

This would save the hassle of pumping out the mineral oil into a radiator to keep it cool and is prolly the easiest way to achieve sub zero temps smile.gif

Mineral Oil doesn't spread heat well and thus your gonna need some sort of pump to circulate it around the system. It is a really stupid and a blasé idea at this point

I hope we get pictures of this, sounds interesting.
I thought about a mineral oil PC in this way: it would have 2 halves (acrylic). One filled with oil for PC, and one filled with water for fish smile.gif

definitely not worth the time nor the money. Unless of course you replace water with LN.

Hmm, it might be a little easier to pipe water than mineral oil.

You could have a: slush box, TEC setup, soon-to be-dead-minifridge, whatever, cooling the water and you wouldn't have to worry about condensation if you had your PC in the mineral oil with a heat exchanger between the two mediums.

you cant uyse a fridge! it will end really badly, maybe even explode. fridges are not supposed to deal with almost unlimited amounts of heat.

Mineral Oil freezes at -30c, however as it gets colder the viscosity keeps going down and it becomes harder to circulate.
