YES! looks like i wont need to upgrade my MOBO after all
post #32 of 41
wait. how is it suppose to work. physically the number of pins wont fit on the am3 board in the comparison pictures with am3 and am3+. OR is is just going to be variations of BD like some for am3 boards and some for am3+

You need to ask your motherboard vendor.

So by that comment you guys are planning backwards compat it's just up to the motherboard vendors to patch in BIOS support?
No, there are different sockets for bulldozer. But motherboard compatibility is not AMD's responsibility, it's the motherboard vendor's.

I knew this was going to happen.

it was just stupid to keep support for older cpus on newer socket. it didnt look right. not everything is as it should be

AES instructions should be on am3. they are not dependent on socket

This is what I'm thinking... I remember reading that the pin layout was different with AM3+?

Here's the board in question:

I wonder if this is an AM3+ socket that just uses the 890FX chipset?

Here's a planned ASRock board based on the AM3+ socket, using the 890FX chipset:

Bad luck by the looks of it!

This topic should be closed and revised.

If you have an AM3 board RIGHT NOW, It will not work. They are releasing boards with AM3 chipsets that have AM3+ sockets for the Bulldozer CPU. No board out right now has support for Bulldozer.

Bulldozer does not support AM3.

Bulldozer is AM3+ Only.

MSI is making boards with AM3+ Sockets on them using the 8 Series Chipset.
This will allow MSI to make boards right now, and then include a BIOS update later on with new AEGESA Code to support Bulldozer CPU's with limited features.
