Enough amp?

Thread Starter
So i may be jumping into the audiophile world relatively fast, but i think i want a pair of denon ah-d5000s. The sound card i was looking at was the asus xonar essence st. The st has a built in headphone amp, but i was wondering if it would be good enough for these headphones. Please reply kindly:P Remember im a noob at this. headscratch.gif

It should be able to power them fine, however with those headphones you may want to seriously consider a dedicated DAC and amplifier.

Really? You're going to spend over $1000 on soundcard and headphones when your rig doesn't even cost that much? Sorry for being skeptical.

You might want to head over to Head-Fi for better informed opinions.

If you are going to drop $700 on cans you should be putting more on an amp and source. The STX will power those cans, but it will not bring out their full potential. If you have a budget this big, you should consult the people on Head-Fi. When delving into the audiophile world, it is important that you do not neglect one portion or another.

You have to deal with the source, amp, and the cans. One weak link will make the entire setup garbage. If you spend your entire budget on one and skimp on the other two, your setup will lack as they are only as good as their weakest link.

The guys at Head-Fi or even here can help you budget your money correctly to get the right sound, we just need an overall budget.

Edit: If you do fly off the handle and buy expensive cans before consulting people, make sure you check out the manufacturer's list of approved resellers and buy from there only, or from Head-Fi. There is an abundance of knock off headphones, especially knockoff high end headphones. It is important to shop with authorized resellers.
