I'm in the same boat as you are with the build. The mobo's should be comin 2 weeks at the latest, but it's promising to see an asus pop up today on the egg.

Regarding your build just to explore all options take a look at the Noctua NH-D14 for cpu cooling. It's considerably more money, but is considered to be the best or at least one of them.

And for your GPU also look at the 6950. It can be easily flashed to the 6970, has twice the memory and is ranked high on the gpu ranking here on this site.

I guess the way i looked at it about the cpu cooling was that the sandy bridge cpu's overclock well already stock. So if you really wanna kick it up why not get the best, but the hyper 212 at $30 is a great value and that is indisputable.

Nice build going by the way...you may want to check out the thread i created about my build had a lot of nice questions answered for me which really helped me out as well. I haven't been here for long but it's a great community people are so helpful.

What really is the difference of the two?

And I'm going to look at a few GPU benchmarks right now. 6850, 6870, 5870, GTX260, GTX460 is mainly what I would be looking at.
I think 8 GB of RAM is purely overkill....

TV? You have have heard of Never Miss a show / hulu.com ?

A GTS 450 is plenty good enough for 1600 X 900 @ medium to high, even in Battlefield Bad Company 2 it can play 1920 X 1080 HD at low or medium settings! I don't believe in Overkill, but if you want to spend the money, overkill your PSU, that's what you need to overkill first...

LOL wooww my bad on that. I guess i got into the middle of the thread when he was talking about being paranoid about the overclocking to 4.5 and was recommended the hyper 212.

I just wanted him to know there was other options.

Thanks for letting it slide!

Just curious....why would a PSU be the first thing to overkill besides the obvious reason that it powers everything. Would a Corsair AX750 on my build be cutting it two short?

The AX750 is absolutely fine. You could run 2x 6950's no problem.

Plus it's fully modular, is already fully sleeved and had 80+ Gold Certification.

I'm buying the 850 model for my MATX Build.

When you say "overkill" what exactly do you mean?

IMHO the graphics card you have there is overkill for what you've said you wanted to do. You're heading in to the "everything on high mode" when gaming now. Not a bad thing of course

Nothing wrong with the build you've chosen. I'd go for something like this...

Quote:
Case: Antec Three Hundred Illusion Black Steel ATX Mid Tower $54.99

PSU: XXX XFX 650W $69.99 (AR $30) Tiger Direct

CPU: Core i5 2500k $229

Mobo: ASUS P8P67 Pro $180ish

Cooler: CM 212+ $29.99

RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL $99 (This was on sale a few weeks ago for cheaper!)

GPU: EVGA 01G-P3-1465-AR GeForce GTX 465 (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 $169.99 (AR $30)

HDD: SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache $64.99

Optical: ASUS Black 24X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 12X DVD+R DL 24X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 12X DVD-RAM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2MB Cache SATA 24X DVD Burner $18.99
$917.93 Under $1000 and still a decent rig that will allow you to multi-task to your hearts content.

I was quoting GMtech when he talked about the 8gb ram being overkill and that the PSU would be the first thing to overkill.

Glad to hear the psu is fine would it potentially be able to power 2 gtx 580's or is that just pushing it?

And i was going to get the Ax850 too but the price on it went up they had it the same as the 750

I'm going to upgrade the RAM to 8GB in the future anyways, so why not just spend like $20 and have it now? So I'm going with 8GB.

For resolution on games, I'm going to have to use my TV ATM by HDMI, and the max reso it supports is 1366x768, so I'm pretty sure a 560 can run like all games max at that reso. In the future, I will get a new monitor though (already have one picked out, find it earlier in this thread), that supports 1920x1080.

And I don't need a 6950 or anything more than a GTX560. The 560 probably already does more than I will ever need. Really the only games I'm going to be playing is Dirt 2, BC2, CSS, Oblivion, Fallout New Vegas, and L4D2. And I probably will get Crysis 2 and Dragon Age II in the future, but as long as they never go under 30FPS at 1366x768 (for now, and 1920x1080 in the future) on atleast Medium-High, then I'm perfectly happy.

And as long as the 212 can keep my CPU cool at 4.5Ghz without the fan needing to go extremely fast and loud, then I really dont see a need to upgrade it.

It could power 2x580's but id be pushing it. Especially if you overclocking.

You could get away with it, but id be on the safe side.

8GB of ram for gaming is not needed, but its not "overkill" but it could cause problems later on down the track with OC and stuff.
