And yes my brother my dad and me all know our electronics/car audio/home audio and everything else tech related he has a pair of JBL concert speakers in his crib each box houses a big a$$ horn and 2 15' innch jbl's in each box and he got an old pair of 15' inch optimus's to that hes gonna give me he just dont have the room for it all.. when i feel like it i will show you a pic of what the back of the speaker says on it just so you know they r what i say they r and they do produce massive sound/bass go flame somewhere else grumpy!!!
Rockford or XPlod huh? Unless he had a 1501D or bigger amp (doubtful, being that he spent $20 each per sub, he wouldn't spend $800 on an amp)...then he still was nowhere near 1500w. Both of the above amps are garbage anyway until you get into the higher end class D monoblocks from Rockford (which are completely over expensive). And Sony is no better than VR-3 is honestly.

You're claiming I've never blown a speaker? HA! A buddy of mine had two of those exact same VR-3 "subwoofers". I hooked them up to my Alpine MRP-M220 2 channel, bridged at 4ohms (150w RMS). It was only tuned to roughly 100w RMS. And those piles POPPED and smoked like nothing in a sealed box.

Just like I haven't blown a Type S 10, 3 Premier 5000 SPL's, 2 HiFonics HFi D4's, a couple of Type R's, several...SEVERAL no name brand junk subs that are better than those VR3's.....yeah, I've never blown a speaker in my life.

If your dad and brother know so much about audio, why do they have concert JBL speakers for the house? And Radio Crack PA speakers for 15's?

And I could care less what the back of those speakers say. They're no more than 50w each, and I believe they are a 4ohm single voice coil. And no, they WILL NOT put out massive bass. Maybe at 100Hz, MAYBE. Which your full range speakers should be picking that up anyway.

Yeah, you're right. I know nothing. This is why I'm buying 4 RE SRX 12's tomorrow for a blow through in my car. Along with an AP18001D to push them (450w RMS per sub). Or the twin batteries I have sitting right here next to me for the project. Or the 2 sheets of 3/4" MDF. How about my 2/0 wiring that's sitting in the corner waiting?

Yup, I sure know absolutely nothing.

I don't know a lot about car audio, home is more my thing, but I do know that you don't use car audio components in a home setup, or vice versa. Generally leads to poor sound quality.
Also, what Pio said about the rated wattage being peak. That, and more watts doesn't mean better. My sub under my bed is 100W RMS at 8 ohms, but running on a 25W (at 8 ohms) sub amplifier. I originally got that amp as a temporary to get the sub up and running, but after two years I see no reason to upgrade, it sounds great.

My still perfect after years of playing LOUD music!

I can hear from 18hz to 22KHz and I am 22 years old. fine.

I am the one who powers a 10inch sub woofer with a wal-mart amplifier.

This.

I'm running 250w to a single Type R 12 right now. And when it hits a low note (below 30Hz), it shakes the glasses right off my nose (in my car). Granted a Type R is clearly miles and miles above what a VR-3 is, being there's a $100 price difference between the two.
