No more Sata ports. what are my options?

Thread Starter
So there's no more unoccupied sata ports on my mobo. I have 6 ports and they are currently filled with a pair in raid 0 (boot), a card reader, a pair in raid 1, and a single drive. Raid for the drives are setup in bios.

I'm hoping to make room for an optical drive and another single drive. I'm assuming that the boot drives, card reader, and optical drive should stay in the mobo ports. I was thinking about picking up a raid card? Any advice on what should I do?

Get a sata card. If you have an open PCIe or PCI slot get a sata card for more sata ports.

Get a 2-port PCIe SATA card..... and move optical drive and card reader to it. Keep your higher performing drives on your native controller.
Once again...

Thanks everyone! Its actually a multicard reader that plugs into a SATA port.

Oh and btw, any suggestions for cheap cards?

for PCI-e

for PCI
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815280001

I would recommend getting the pci-e card instead because of the faster speed of the bus.

You need to determine your options...

PCI or PCI-E?
How many ports?
Actual price range?

Additionally, it might be tough finding a cheap and reliable RAID/Controller card since you never know if you might run into problems. I remember when I was looking for a reliable four port card when I ended up getting a sixteen port card instead for a little extra (used). Straight to the point...reliable controller cards don't come cheap.

@pvp309rcp

Pci-e
2 ports minimum (preferably 4 for future expansion)
Ideally I'd only spend 30$ on this, but I was considering taking the plunge and buying a Perc 6i.

@ thrasherht & t0adphr0g

Thanks for the suggestions!
