First build ever! Need help!

Thread Starter
So after all the researching, here is my almost final draft:

Core i5 2500k SB CPU 229.99

Storm scout 89.99

Biostar TP67B+ 129.99

Corsair TX650 V2.31 109.99

G.Skill 4GBXL 2X2GB 49.49

Sapphire Vapor-X 5770 OC 129.99

Samsung spinpoint F3 500GB 49.99

Plus tax and shipping comes out to around 900... (Canada)

I would like to change the mobo to p8p67 asus once the price comes out but I'm sure it will be more expensive than the biostar board. As for graphics, I do want to go high end but my budget won't allow. When I have more budget I'm thinking about doing XF with another 5770 in the future.

Want comments on cutting the cost for PSU.

first thing i would change off the bat would be to switch from the Caviar Black to a Samsung F3, definitely a better hard drive.

next you can get much better performance for almost the exact same price looking into a 6870, especially if you can find a combo deal with something else you need like Memory on newegg.ca

also with the i5-2300, your overclocking options go out the window therefore you don't really need a P67 Mobo and could look into the H67 instead, or ideally (since this is OCN after all) upgrade to the i5-2500k and overclock the crap out of it for only about 30 more bucks.

also, look into the A70 or hyper 212+ as your cooling options, can usually get both for less than 30 bucks, and both do an amazing job with cooling.

and last but not least, i know you are already looking into a case, but i could recommend something with a better cable management option, since that rosewill doesn't really give you any at all. possibly the Coolermaster HAF 912 or something for about 10 bucks more can give you a much better option to clean up the cables.

hope this all helps, i am still working on options to make something fit your budget and get you the absolute best bang for your buck, have fun with the first build either way you go!

for most general use PC's, unless you are doing video editing/rendering get a good 4GB memery set and you will be fine for gaming in almost any circumstance. plus you will save like 40 dollars or more only going for 4 gigs.

Buy a good PSU. DO NOT buy any Cooler Master unit, unless you can find a good deal on a Silent Pro M or Silent Pro Gold unit. The 500W Extreme Power Plus you mentioned is a turd. Refer to the Power Supplies forum if you need guidance picking a PSU.
Yeah what they said, 4 GB should suffice for normal day-to-day use, that's why I asked. ESPECIALLY if your going to overclock a good PSU is really worth the cash, but you really dont want to be cheaping out on the PSU, of course you dont buy a Silverstone 1500w for a mid-range build tho If you do stuff like video encoding and stuff I suppose you can go for the 8GB tho.

Oh shi-, just saw he mentioned the video encoding thing too, sorry

Ok so I'm guessing I need at least 650W so I'll have to 500W CM one I have right now. Can you give me some recommendations? What about the 650W Corsairs?

I'd say as long as you go with corsair pretty much every PSU is good if not every. They make quality products.

I'm also interested in the Lian Li PC-K62 over the CM HAF or the Rosewill I mentioned. http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...-239-_-Product
