Sata3 operates at 6GB/second compared to Sata2 which operates at 3GB/second. Drives must support Sata3.

USB3.0 is not widely supported now but it will be, this is exactly how USB2.0 started (not all devices supported it at first).

So even if I wanted the more expensive motherboards I probably can't get them since my harddrives don't support them? Is that what you're saying? I guess I'm stuck with the 80 dollar motherboards too... Which is what I wanted at first, but I don't know if the 80 dollar motherboards are good enough to hit 4ghz and how easy it will be overclock on them.

The fact that the ram is DDR2 vs. DDR3 shouldn't really matter at all with the overall OC. The more important thing is board quality and how far the CPU will go. I take it that you are trying to get a 965 to 4.0. It happens with some but not all 965s. Some just don't make it there.

Old hard drives will work on the new boards.

What board do you recommend that gives me the best chance at hitting 4ghz? I know the board right now I have won't do it plus its 95watts motherboard thats on a 125watts cpu... Which they say can burn up or something.

Considering the board is one of the most important parts of a build, its better to get a good one.. One with a 8+2 power phase.

Really, the boards you listed aren't much better than the one you have now.

Look for a board with the 790fx chipset if you want the best OC capabilities at that price range. But if your getting 3.8 now as long as voltage isnt too extrme the biostar you listed would be perfect.

I suggest the Asus M4A79XTD EVO 790X

Why? Well, for starters, they have:
- 8+2 phase power.
- Reasonable VRM heatsinks.
- x8/x8 PCIe split.
- Two slots gap for better GPU cooling if you run a CrossfireX configuration.
- Good motherboard layout.

What it doesn't have:
- 8-pin CPU power cable. (Not a huge problem. Apparently, it would provide more stable power, but it's not a big issue).
- DDR2 RAM (so you'd need to buy ne).
- sata 6GB/s and USB 3.0 (These are new and aren't 100% necessary right now. They're nice to have, but you don't need sata 6 GB/s unless you're using top-of-the-range ssd's and you can use e-sata instead of usb 3.0)

Ultimately, they look to be good motherboards, and most importantly, cheap too:

I really hope that open box doesn't give me any problems. I just bought it. The price was too good to refuse to not get open box, I read the risks newegg has but I really hope I don't have any problems.

Have any ddr3 memory recommendations? Should I get some slower ddr3 memory at get alot like 6gigs or should I get like 1600 4 gigs of memory? Thanks buddy! You've helped me out alot!

Edit: Just bought G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600... It has Customer Choice Award Winner or something... Hmmm, is my new pc going to run beastly now with these new updates compared to before?
