so far the H70 has handled my 920@4.2 w/ 1.35 volts w/ out any hiccups
I am more likely to stay with watercooling as it could mean I could OC the CPU a lot. I was thinking up to 4.5 GHz but I'm not sure how well that would go?

The PassMark shows that it has 1,200 less points. From 10,581 to 9,310.

Provided I go with watercooling :
What kind of OCing frequencies could I get out of both

Those are all great aircoolers.

As has been stated though, the 2 bigger of those may cause issues with ram placement on some boards so an H70 may be a better choice for you.

I have never been a fan of the HAF series, they have always been too large or too much of an eyesore for me. There are plenty of cases on the market that have just as good of airflow. But to each, his own. The HAF X will work very well for you in this situation.

As for a mobo, I am a huge fan of EVGA, but ASUS is also a very good brand. If you are only going to use 2 gpus, you do not need the 4-way SLi classy board, it is too much for what you are going to use it for. I would go for the R3E in this case.

Another option would be to use an Audio Interface. Something like a Motu Hybrid.

Going back to your i7 question. What RAM does the i7-2600K Sandybridge support?

And isn't the i7 990x Extreme designed for OCing? Where as the 2600k is sort of for performance but not extreme

Even a asus rampage formula if your only going two gpus save a whole $100.

Oh and another thing do you even do anything that would take advantage of the 990? cause if just gaming it's really not needed CPU will hardly be touched during any game even a cpu intensive one.

If you encode or render than go for it.

If you are going to be gaming mainly on this rig you will see little difference because for the most part most of the load will be handled by your gpu's.

With a high end aircooler you could hit 4.5 GHz no issue with either one of those. The 2600K has been able to hit 5GHz with a decent water setup. I dont know about the 990X because it is so new.

If you are going to be doing mainly games on this rig and dont want to spend a boat load of money go for the 2600k, you will be much happier.

I need to head off now, but if you have any more questions PM me.

If you want a decent sound card, get an Asus Xonar. Fatality cards are nothing but gimmicky crap.

the 2600k is slightly faster core for core on the i7's(930 not 980) and overclock's quite a bit higher. I'm at 4.8ghz currently.

http://www.anandtech.com/show/4083/t...2100-tested/20
Wow, I didn't realise it was that good. so I could OC the 2600k to 4.8 GHz, would that require Watercooling, and would the H70 suffice for this?

Also I do Maya Rendering in 3D, would the 2600k be able to do well at this?
