I'm on a lowly h50 and my temps don't go past 72c.

Don't always look at ghz tho cause i mean clock for clock changes with every architecture, the 980/990 has two extra cores but that doesn't mean much if you don't use them. Singlethreaded performance is higher with the 2600k so most games are going to get more performance cpu wise out of it.

Get a high end p67 board like th UD7 or the maximus extreme just wait till the new revisions come out from the SATA recall should be out in a few weeks.

some rendering

It's either faulty or your friend's an idiot.

Probably the latter.

Would the Asus Maximus IV Extreme work with 2600K and 2000 MHz RAM?

Obviously it must be faulty. Though, I don't understand your reasoning for flaming someone you have not met. Good start in introducing yourself.

Meh, I should of known better to join up in a forum reserved for adolescent teens bent on negativity.

Goodbye.

Sandy is odd with ram, you will probably have to run it at 1866, or loosen the timings and try to get 2133 out of it.

but it works with the 2600k yes.

Edit: i have 2000mhz ram and have ran it at 1866 just fine haven't tried higher yet.

Okay, so just to confirm

I'll go for

i7 2600K <-- With Corsair H70
Asus Maximus IV Extreme / Or the P67-UD7
24GB 2000 MHz Corsair Dominator-GT
Coolermaster HAF X
2 x Palit GTX 580 3GB (to get 6GB still).
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Professional / Champion
PCI WiFi N Card

Does this sound all good?

please spend time in the intel part of the forums, they are littered w/ SB builds, suggestions, similar questions etc.

it seems that you have a LOT of reading to do before you make a decision, since you have jumped from socket 1366, 2 different mobo's, 3 to 2 different gpu selections and that's not even counting the air cooling and watercooling questions =D

you came to the right place, now just spend some time in the different sub forums b/c you will likely find your answers there
