Console port is the new catch phrase to justify illegally downloading a game that they think is not worth buying. Ironically this leaves developers with little choice but to focus on making games for consoles as that is the only way they will make a profit.

Look at yourselves before you criticise developers.

It's not a new catch phrase. It is a simple observation of a collected group of people that notice the 'tv' and 'autoaim' and 'press start' in the demo. The demo IS a console port meaning they ported it from the console directly to the PC.

This is the way most games are seemingly being made now with a few exceptions (BF3 and nearly all indie games). Games are usually better this way but I guess more expensive or something since developers rather not do this and instead alienate our master race to play their console ports.

You sure BF 3 isnt going to be a Console Port? everyone was so sure Crysis 2 wasn't going to be.

I can agree that the "catch phrase" is another means to justify piracy (should one indulge in piracy) In my opinion, I don't think the latter part of your statement is logical. If a developer truly wanted to maximize profits over loss, they would strictly make games for consoles and not waste resources to publish for PC at all.

I posted (at least I think) that I thought crysis 2 was going to suck purely because it was overhyped. They gave us no reason to believe it wouldn't be a console port otherwise when they released the details that it would be coming out for console. Whereas BF3 has specifically stated PC is getting special attention and have already laid out multiple features that the consoles gamers just can't do because of hardware limitations.

If BF3 turns out to be garbage I will have to sell my rig and find a new hobby or something I guess because then I will know all is lost. I also plan on upgrading my computer a few hundred dollars worth at least for BF3 so hopefully it doesn't disappoint.

Pretty much. I assume it would be easier to make lower resolution textures then make multiple ones and have some higher. Also wouldn't need to add in many of the things PC's can take advantage of and add in all the options for custom controls, graphics and everything else.

PC gaming is still on the rise though and I would assume more and more people would get bored looking at dirty looking textures all day and switch over to something more relaxing and enjoyable to play on.

And Crytek is giving the PC version special attention as well with a team dedicated, they said, to the PC version.. and the DX 11 that the console versions just arent going to be able to handle either.

My advice, and i give this with every major next game coming out when someone gets disappointed with the previous "must have" title... is remember the last must have title... like Crysis... or Dragon Age 2... or Black Ops... or Mass Effect 2... or... etc...

Like me! I look at both my xbox's, PS3's, and slew of games and say...gosh dang it! To think what kind of rig I'd have if only I discovered PC gaming beforehand. My consoles are demo boxes now, if I can't try it before I buy it on the PC...power up the boxes.

Autoaim only works for people using an xbox controller. 'Press start' and 'tv' shows that the DEMO is a console port, probably because they did not plan on giving PC gamers a demo. So I will still hold out for the retail version before passing judgement.

As for graphics do not forget that Crysis 1 lowered its graphics for the MP, so it is likely Crysis 2 did the same. And I assume DX11 was not included in the demo to make sure everybody could try out the demo with as little lag as possible.

But this is obviously not a good thing for the PC community. Why did everybody have to trash Crysis 2 before witnessing the full retail version? They should be grateful, these days most developers do not even offer us a demo. I think the demo was ported but until we see the reviews we only have one half of the story.

BFBC2 did the same thing I believe, MP and singleplayer used different engines so the game feels slightly different. It might not be BC2 though, but some game last year did it just not 100% sure what it was.

If that was the case they shouldn't have released the demo at all. A demo should showcase your best features not show your worst. You wouldn't give out samples of a cheese if it was stale so why release a dx9 console port demo to PC gamers, it just feels like an insult really.
