Windows 7 vs Windows Xp - Page 4

Get on Win7. Even if it is just a tiny bit slower in some older games, it is a much better OS in general. And since you have a DX10/11 capable card, there is no reason why you shouldn't be enjoying those added abilities.

Also, 2gb more RAM might help you, but it isn't absolutely necessary. I have built quite a few rigs this year with Win7 and 2gb of ram, and they still run very smooth. But one thing about 7 is that the more ram you have, the more likely things are going to run smoothly. It will use that ram to speed up as many things as it can.

XP is outdated and they don't update much well anymore and they are a huge target to spam and hackers. Windows 7 is the only way to go. Especially for gaming!

That is not quite true. Even Windows XP 32-bit can benefit from having more than 2GB of RAM. I tested it in my Media Center two weeks ago.

I have a PEntium Dual Core E5300, 2GB of DDR800 and a Radeon HD4670 512MB GDDR3, with Windows XP Home Edition SP3.

I was playing Crysis Warhead at 1280x720 (720p), in Medium settings, and I couldn't get it to be smooth in busier scenes.

I then upgraded to 4GB and now I'm able to play at Medium ("Mainstream") with High ("Gamer") shaders, and it stays at 36fps in busier scenes.

I simply didn't have enough RAM, even at at that resolution and quality settings.

I later ran Crysis Warhead in devmode and the game alone was using 1.36GB of RAM. Now take into account all those background processes and programs and Windows cached files. Even Windows XP can benefit from having 3GB of RAM (but while at it, make it 4 so it's in dual channel and ready for Windows 7 64-bit). Now imagine I was playing at higher resolutions and quality settings.

Haha yeah and you put it in my system right?

No literally the only times I do get issues is when some of my idiot friends are on my PC but that's why I keep everything backed up.
