This is why I opted to put my 3 drives in RAID0 for the OS and just manually image my 1tb data drive to a 1tb backup drive instead of implementing a RAID array.

I always keep 3 backups of my data, always, if not more..

I'm only concerned with protecting my OS in RAID...

The process of replacing a bad HDD in a RAID1 array should be simple, however sometimes things get out of hand and for some reason we get to accidentally wipe out the entire array, so keeping fresh backups of the system is always recommended, just in case. or perform an image backup of the good drive before the replacement of the bad one, just to make sure that if something goes wrong you have a backup of the previous state of it.
