Is it worth crossfiring?

Thread Starter
I'm thinking of upgrading my computer since my performance in games is starting to lack. I was considering throwing another xfx 5870 into my rig and calling it good but would it be worth it?

I'm playing rift and I'm noticing a LOT of video lag while my processor is sitting at 50% across all 4 cores.

Also starting to notice it in metro 2033 and other games. So I'm open to suggestions.

IDK about Rift, but M2033 will run nicely in CFX.
Definitely the best bang for the buck upgrade path ATM, you'll be set for awhile.
Crysis 2 won't even tax the set up, my fps is always > 40 running the MP demo, Hardcore IQ.
And in game M2033, always runs 50-150 fps at my settings.

I haven't tried Rift on my system yet, but if you're on a tight budget you should definitely go for another 5870. I bought another XFX 5830 for my system and so far I am loving it. As of now, I believe you can get another XFX 5870 on newegg with a rebate

I just went two 6950 xfire - do not ask me why. Mad dog bit me to go on spending spree. But at any rate, my performance doubled. I was getting max 40 fps in Metro2033, now I easily get 80 with graphics at very high and AAA. Heaven bench mark went from about 44 FPS to 103 FPS. Crossfire is the beeznazzz.

I wouldn't take to much of a performance hit of x8 x8 right?

8x8 is fine, but never crossfire ****ty low to mid range gpu's. they don't work at the best of times. I'm currently having the problem of 2 GPU's running at 100%, overheating and being general pains in the a-hole. (for no apparent reason). (other than a cpu bottleneck).

Below is running SC2 on mid settings.

It's not worth it at all for Rift. I play as well (we have an OCN guild on Keenblade Guardians) And I've got 6950's. I get no performance increase in crossfire at all. I actually disabled it for Rift. It is a NVidia sponsored game so probably the best we can hope for is a CCC profile later on down the line (maybe a month) to allow Xfire to be used effectively. Rift is hard on AMD cards in general. I've got mine flashed to a 6970 and overclocked, and I drop to 28 FPS in some rare cases.

I have crossfire 5870s, they do great in a lot of games but seem to scale much worse than the 6xxx series. Im trying to sell mine and change to a single GPU nvidia card.

I'm sorry you have problems with your 5770's, but I do not. I love my 5770's.
