New modem causing big issues

Thread Starter
Originally, we had an old NTL modem connected to our Belkin router, which linked wirelessly to all the PCs in the house, and wired to the main desktop.

The modem died Sunday, and was replaced today with Virgin Media's Hub (which is a modem and Netgear router rolled into one). I do not have the time to change over to using the Netgear, so we have the Belkin (on 192.168.2.1), connected to the Netgear using 192.168.0.1, and everything else as normal.

I cannot use the VM hub because my sigrig and my dad's Amilo do not support Wireless N and do not recognise the network.

There's 2 problems.

Practically all Flash online games keep disconnecting. Facebook games mainly, keep saying they are disconnected from the server.

And the default username and password, half of the time, WILL NOT log me into the Hub's control panel (via 192.168.0.1). They have not been changed, neither has any single setting on it.

Is the new modem faulty? Will I HAVE to use the Netgear router and manage without wifi on my sigrig?

Right, on advice from another forum I disabled DHCP on the Belkin and now I CANNOT access it at all, wired or wireless, and cannot change it back. Help, without this my sigrig is practically useless.

Don't mean to jack this topic, but is DDR-WT on it? I was wondering whether it not DDR-WT or Tomato would work on those modem/router combos.

Had to reset the Belkin router in the end.

Internet seems to be smoother, but I am intending to switch over the one PC that can't connect (my father's Amilo D1845) when I can. Would I be able to get an n-compatible mini PCI card and just put it in in place of the Broadcom mini PCI card already in his laptop?

You should be able to connect still even though that PC doesn't have a wireless n card in it most routers allow backwards compatibility... I'm also guessing if you disconnect the Belkin you should be able to flawlessly login to the netgear. Let me know.

The Virgin has it's own wireless network which I can log into without any issue.

The router itself does. My sigrig and HTPC have wireless G cards and find it fine.

Right now I'm connected to the Belkin, without incident. Working fine I think. The main issue was with things that required a constant connection, like games or streaming. I managed to stream 2 hours of TV today without incident on the HTPC.

Is it to do with my dad's laptop running XP?
I'm not sure what card he's running, suspect it's a Broadcom 4315 for some reason.

What is your topology?

Internet -> Netgear -> Belkin's WAN port -> PC's?

Any reason you can't just move crap onto the netgear's wired ports for wired clients?
It sounds like you're behind double NAT.
