A. only blondie

 D. prince, blondie, and elvis
I got both these questions, wrong, and I know the correct answer, however, I don't understand why.

I guess, for number 7, I didn't include the parent directory, but, everything should be able to be listed by all users shouldn't it with the current way it is setup?

As far as 10, I don't quite understand that at all. The parent directory allows for all users in the music group, but, the specific file itself, only allows Blondie to read and write, and all users to read. Unless I am overly confusing myself for this.

I'm no expert but, ignore the parent directories. This is asking about specific files.

questions 7: C.
listing is apart of the read, if they don't have "read" abilities, then they can't list the files either., so only the owner and group would be allowed to read it.

question10:A.
blondie and root would be the only two who would be able to delete this file, the others can read it.

It marked number 10 as B, and I put A. A is what I thought it was, so, I don't understand where they got B, from.

yeah looks like i missed it too, looks like other groups has read/write permissions as well...-rw-rw-r, if the highlighted section been an r, then only blondie and root would've been able to remove it.

But, from what I gather, it is User - Group - Other.

Since the file group permissions, are blondie, then only blondie should still have access to it, right?

i need to learn to pay better attention

Code:
music/contrib/rootmusicdrwxrwxrwx
the folder has global read/write/exectute permissions, which would give all users, regardless of group to remove said file.

i don't often mess with file permissions in linux as i often mess them up , you have to be careful when you set directory and file permissions, as from what i understand, directory permissions over ride file permissions.

Only in certain situations. That has a global setting, meaning all subdirectories inherit permissions regardless of what the owner sets. [edit] I was actually just about to post something about that. =P

I could be wrong, but I think you need to look at FACLs. FACLs give you specific functional permissions. You can for example set "filea.txt" to allow bob rwx but user jane r--. If the permissions are already set, then you need to run `getfacl filename.txt` to show the extended attributes as `ls` isnt going to show you those permissions.

Edit:

If you have not looked at the FACLs, and keep getting the questions wrong then more than likely thats why. Check em out and let me know what you find.
