Hi I can't take studdering in games anymore please help!

Thread Starter
I have i7-860 stock and gtx 470 oced 800/1800/1.025 volts 80c max. temp with 8gig 1333mhz ram, but alot of my games studder when running or loading background textures and the textures seem to load slow as I walk towards them. I had a 5770 and it ran smoother than my gtx470 in some of my favorite games like Crysis, all Fallouts, Far Cry, and now Bulletstorm etc.etc.! I have tried a hundred different drivers well almost and different clocks and reinstalls of games make sure they are patched always. The thing that bugs me is the fact when studdering occurs my gpu usage is always pretty low 50%-70% and games like Metro 2033 which really test my rig run great but FNV DX9 runs like crap. Could it be a page file issue, or old junk from ATI 5770 drivers, maybe even a permissions issue because I believe I might have one? Bottleneck or should be using my gpu for physX instead of my i7-860? Any ideas would be great, Thanks!

i would look at OCing your CPU and see if the GPU usage goes up...

Also try a using driversweaper to clean up all of your drivers (ATI and Nvidia)

then reinstall the latest ones...

also remember to run driversweaper in safemode

You can try using setFSB, which kinda works.
4-year build.

The gpu temp maxed is 80c not the cpu it runs at about 55c maxed out it's a H57 chipset but Dell used a imitation Intel board to save money I guess. Anyway like I said it's only bad in DX9 games maybe it's a fermi thing not sure but I might borrow my friends 6870 and see if that plays smoother with the DX9 games. With the cpu temps around 60c can I oc it? Turbo Boost runs at 3.4ghz I would think a quad core at that speed should have no issue with these games. But I'm the one with a issue so maybe.

Sounds like a hard drive issue and its just a coincidence that it occurred when you installed the new video card. Loading textures has to go through the sata bus which might inhibit the pcie bus somehow. If possible can you test with a faster hd or an ssd?

I believe your're right about the HDD issue, because I downloaded HD Tune and ran a test and had a couple really bad dips in performance. So I noticed acoustic management wasn't set to high performance and after I changed setting I played Crysis and the textures load much faster and almost elimanted skips. Much smoother but I think I'll buy a SSD in future. Thanks!
