[TheAge]Bloody battle over Mortal Kombat ban as critics decry 'broken' classification

Warner Bros. is appealing a ban on one of the most anticipated game releases of the year, Mortal Kombat, as the federal government's censors defend their decision to ban Mortal Kombat while allowing a sexy spanking game to be classified PG.
Earlier this week it was revealed that the Classification Board had given Mortal Kombat a "refused classification" rating due to its violent gameplay, effectively banning it from sale in this country unless the publisher, Warner Bros., submits a more toned-down version.
At the same time, a new risqué title for the Wii, We Dare, is due for release tomorrow and has been given a PG rating despite the game promoting spanking, stripping and sexual partner swapping .

LMAO...That is such nonsense...

The Wii game is "banned" in America too by the way. Ubisoft wont release it in America, so double whammy for them.

But how is that it was allowed in aus but banned in America? That's seems very inconsistent if you ask me. The fact that the wii game got a PG rating system tells you how arbitary this system is!

Different countries so results are always going to be different. Having said that I tend to agree with the US banning the Wii game. I mean if its really about partner swapping, spanking etc then it really shouldnt be PG. I wouldnt want a child playing something like that. To me, something suggestive is much more effective in influcing people then something overt.

Having said all that banning isnt the answer. It should just be re-classified.

The banning of MK is just stupid they tried it with the first one 18 odd years ago and finally succeeded now.

Time for me to support either the US or UK economy
