And folks, THAT'S the right way to bring a security hole to a developer's knowledge. NOT releasing it worldwide and THEN offering them help on patching it up.

My post was not an opinion (well, the fact about him hacking. I suppose the distressing part is an opinion, although I think everyone should be distressed over games that do get legitimately hacked in under 2 hours), it was a fact that may be wrong due to incorrect information in the source.

Not arguing or saying you're wrong, I just want you to inform me as to what gave it away rather than shunning me for stating information given in the source.

Well, when he brings down the dev console to type in a command for teleport that should have given it away. I actually don't know why he didn't bind it, but then he probably doesn't know how to edit the binds. =P I'm guessing he didn't even spend an hour on it, maybe an hour reading up on how to make a server and join one. LOL Honestly though spotting the cvar/listen thing comes from doing it myself. That and a true hack would have had to bind teleport to a special key. Because the hack doesn't run in game, it runs outside of the game but attached to it's functions, you can't really use the console to run actual "hacks". Now he could have ran a hack that just edited one part of memory, found the function that decides the cheat cvar and just patched memory to make that be true. Of course it's still just easier making your own listen server and inviting your friends, then just fuxing around with them. Or make a video (cause that level is in the real game towards the end) in game and cheat, then say it's a hack of the online level.

Who knows how you were supposed to know.

Same way the first crysis started getting hacked. It started w/ speed hac. Before it ended they had a map built under the map you were on, with rabbit holes.
They could levitate. Or kill a tank with a pistol with one shot. Or kill every person in the server with one shot. I mean every person droped dead instantly!

Ive had enough of punkbuster and EA. Keep your $60 Note the similarities. This is long poke from 2007.
This is what you will have to look forward to.

Thank you, an actually useful response

And I thought that maybe the console was it, but I figured that perhaps the hack could have just been integrated into the console or something. I couldn't read what he was actually typing, and I don't know Crysis console commands anyway.

I haven't hacked since I tried it for 2 minutes back on the original Counter-Strike (on a non-VAC hacker server, actually) just to see what it was like and say I've done it. It was not very interesting or fulfilling haha.

There are hacks out in the wild for this, ive seen at least 3 different players using aimbots, either that or the auto-aim needs to be removed from the PC version (although I have read somewhere that the auto-aim only works when you use a controller - ive not tested it myself).

But yea, getting peppered by a machine gun from across the map isnt exactly fun when they never seem to miss, then you watch the kill cam and its a blatant cheat.

CS:S has had hackers for years, its still popular and fun. As with any online game you cant just expect developers to fix every hole, we need to rely on communities and admins to keep the game fun and fair.

Dont trust the killcam in this demo its seriously bugged. also the guns have no recoil so if you have a half decent aim its not hard to kill acroos the map. Why are people so quick to blame hacks rather than accept that maybe some people are just very good.

Well Counter-Strike has dedicated servers owned and run by the players, and the good ones have plenty of admins on them to moderate the server and ban hackers. Although they pop up once in a while, I don't come across that many hackers in CSS any more. Or maybe game hackers have just moved on to bigger, newer games now. I dunno. I think a good dedicated server that frequently has at least one admin in it is the ultimate hacker thwart.
