This 500GB HDD would be cheaper and better than the rest

I think badwrench's suggestion is probably the best and most consistent here (for a full build at least, not just the specifically requested parts). Sucks that Newegg cut free shipping on DVD drives, it's ruining a lot of suggestions here... not for me though, NCIX just had $10 each DVD drives in the sale and I got two. I think I'm good for the next few months

Thanks for all of the replies. My budget is actually $400 but I figured if I could get away with a pc for 300, then I'd have a 100$ towards a new monitor.

As for the cpu I selected being oem, that I know I have the factory heatsink from my 555 be.

Good call on the 1TB spinpoint!

Already have a heatsink? $490? Very well then...
I got board and spotted a really nice PC-K58W deal so I decided to come up with this for you...

Phenom II x4 820 - $105
Biostar A880G+ + Lancool PC-K58W - $115
Team XTreem DDR3-1600 CL9 2x2 - $45
Coolermaster Elite 460W - $36 shipped
Samsung F3 1TB - $55
LG 24X DVD - $22 shipped after promo code
IMC Card reader - $11 shipped (since you wanted one)

Your total cost: $389 shipped

And the cheap option:

Phenom II x2 545 - $76 shipped
Biostar A880G+ + Logisys CS-2008BK/480W (330W) PSU - $108 shipped
Team XTreem DDR3-1600 CL9 2x2 - $45
Samsung F3 1TB - $55
LG 24X DVD - $22 shipped after promo code

This one is $306 shipped so enough money for that new monitor

Thank you! I am going with this option: And the cheap option:

Biostar A880G+ + Logisys CS-2008BK/480W (330W) PSU - $108 shipped
Team XTreem DDR3-1600 CL9 2x2 - $45
Samsung F3 1TB - $55
LG 24X DVD - $22 shipped after promo code

Now I just need to decide what CPU.
I am leaning towards this AMD Athlon II X3 445 Rana 3.1GHz

Here are the other contenders:
AMD Phenom II X2 545 Callisto 3.0GHz OEM (have heat sink)
AMD Phenom II X4 820 Deneb 2.8GHz
and lastly:
AMD Athlon II X4 645 Propus 3.1GHz

I am leaning towards the Athlon X3 445. There is a chance to unlock goodies. If not it will still be 3 cores and brand new. Thanks for the help!

XD you are super helpful. I appreciate it.

Might want to look at the current Shell Shocker: Athlon II X3 450 combo for $264 shipped after tax. I know it has 1333 ram, but at least it's 1.5v. Basically getting it for free with the combo anyways and it will work fine for the intended use of this system.

All you would need is a case and psu of your choice.
Rosewill R103A Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case with 350W $40 shipped with promo code: EMCKGKJ86
ENERMAX VOSTOK w/ 350w psu $36 shipped after $30 mir
Or have a little fun and build her a tiny computer for $70

I could beat that in a heartbeat
Newegg combo DIY kits... the discount on that is pitiful as always
post #30 of 35
x3 435 - $72
Team 1600 CL9 - $45
A880G+ (same as M4A88T-M LE) - $60 (I recommend you combo with the Lancool for a great case)
ASUS 24X - $19
F3 1TB - $55
- $3.78 shipped

Total: $254.78
I exceed by $11, however if you look at the combo deals available for these items with other items you will get more savings (i.e. A880G+ + Lancool K58W)
But basically... yeah, I didn't even try. I guarantee you I will beat a Newegg combo DIY deal every time.
