Ati Hd5970 question =)

Thread Starter
Hello there, a few months back i buildt myself a new gaming computer.
I picked up an hexacore amd cpu, along with 8gigs of ddr3 ram and an ATI Hd5970.
I had the feeling this was a good choise for a graphics card, as of the fact that is had 2x Gpu's.
Still i wasent really impressed, as stuff like call of duty black ops fall down to 25-35 fps at special moments (especialy online when looking into far distances)

Is this "bad" fps normal for these kinds of computers? Or do u suspect ive done something wrong, like not giving some components enough voltage etc, or my memory timing settings not beeing good.

Diden't really know where to post this question, but il try my luck here =)
adding a cpuZ report on my computer, seems like it cant recognize dual gpu's thoo.

What res are you playing at? My 6950 2GB never gives me lower than 60fps while playing BLOPS at 1920x1080.

What are you computer specs? Also in my experience 10.5 was the best drivers to use with the 5970. I personally hated it tho, Exchanged a gtx480 for the 5970 and was way happier. Higher minimum FPS etc...

same reselution as u. i do get 60-80 fps in small areas, but at once when im out in the open its "laggy", just annoying since it really removes precicion from your aiming =)

Btw, I'm sorry about my bad spelling.

That fps isn't all that good for black ops, a 5970 should be able to handle that game fairly easily. If it is only dropping momentarily then you probably have nothing to worry about but if it is staying low for prolonged periods the card might not be performing right. What resolution are you playing on? Also do you have adequate cooling in your case? If the card is too hot it could be underperforming. What brand is the card? If the stock cooler is of poor quality that could be a problem too.

edit: I see that the res was already answered. a 5970 should be able to handle black ops at 1920x1080 with ease.

I have heard that the 5970 has really bad driver support, so that might be it. Have you updated to the newest drivers?
