Noticeable difference between NH-D14 & stock cooler?

Thread Starter
While running the f@h smp client, I've noticed that my temperatures have been consistently exceeding the 60c mark (max recorded: 64c). So, I'm in the market for a new CPU cooler. I'm hoping to reach the 4GHz mark, while keeping my temperatures below 60c. Is this feasible with the Noctua DH-14, or should I consider an alternative air cooling solution?

Also, wouldn't such temperatures have a detrimental affect on CPU longevity over 60c?

CPU: Phenom II x4 940 @ 3.45ghz w/stock cooler (socket AM2+)
Ambient temperature: 21c
Idle: 36c
Load: 57-64c

Sorry, but no HWMonitor screens. PC is disassembled awaiting Antec 900 chassis modification.

I had the NH-D14 before I went to water cooling and it is, in my opinion, the best air heatsink you can buy at this time. Going from it to the rasa rx360 kit, I only dropped ~5c. You will have no problems reaching your goal with the NH-D14.

I'm very impressed with mine. Very easy to install considering it's size. Best air cooler out there right now IMO. Silver arrow is up there as well too.

Awesome, I've heard that with the 900 it's a snug fit but I shouldn't have any problems.
Thanks for your input.

Wow, thanks! I'll definitely look into MOSFET cooling solutions. I wasn't aware of the TA790GX 128M's lack of cooling in this area.
