Yes. Get a small case to make theft even easier!

Yes it does matter, and in dorms you don't have much of it.

Here's a good mATX case that looks pretty plain but still offers good airflow:
CM Elite 341

You should build a rig that's "good enough" for your favorite games. Definitely don't want to spend too much money and have your rig stolen.

Hit the case a few times with a hammer too. Make it look like a POS.

Then again, a full tower does provide security. It's big as hell and you can easily report it to campus police/security. If they see people lugging around something huge, it'll be easier to catch. But mATX is easier to hide.

I had a Thermaltake Lanboy freshman year, went back to a midtower. (Coolermaster 690)

If you can, get one with handles, especially if you bring it home on breaks like me. Though my 690 isnt bad, it is light enough.

Just realize you will be lugging it around a lot. So dont buy a full tower.

Oh, and lock your door.... my roomate and I never have our door unlocked. Theft isnt a problem if you arent stupid about things like leaving your door unlocked while nobody is there.

I'm in college right now and I find that midtowers are the way to go. I live on the 5th floor of my dorm and anything bigger would be a huge pita. My friend has a fulltower and he almost died carrying the thing up the stairs. Trust me, bigger isn't always better, especially in a small dormroom. I'm using a thermaltake element s and I love it.

I'd go small form factor:

Even if your case can fit in your room (because even the biggest of full towers can), it'd still have to be a computer you'd be moving in and out of your room for the year. Additionally, unless you're willing to leave your PC for a month locked in your dorm room over Winter Break, or if you ever want to go to LAN parties, it'll be a pain to drag back and forth places.

I def recommend a small form factor case. Given your parts, even something like the Sugo SG05 mini-ITX will do well.

Mid or SFF case. You don't want to have something huge unless you're close to home. If you have to fly home... get a small case. It's a P.I.T.A. to lug a full tower home for summer/winter breaks. Make sure you also get a quiet computer if you're dorming with someone too... My freshman roommate was a very light sleeper and couldnt sleep if I was typing on my quiet laptop keyboard... I can't imagine what it would be like if I had my SFF case in my room... doh.gif This is why an extra netbook + full keyboard helps if you have the money - 1am Hallway papers FTW tongue.gif. Sometimes you can even get to know your hot neighbor better. biggrin.gif

Since I'm part of the club, I recommend a NZXT Vulcan. You can fit a 350mm long VGA in it. Thats = to a 5990 in length.

Alright, you guys pretty much convinced me going smaller is better.
I just wish they made a smaller phantom lol.

Now, the question is mATX, or ATX. Never seems to end lol.
