ASUS Xonar Essence STX

Thread Starter
I just got a ASUS Xonar Essence STX, but I was wondering if would be comparable to an external headphone amp such as the Headphonia Arrow Amp.

Also, I think my headphones are a little on the low end for this audio card. What would be good headphones for this card to power? My current headphones were ~$150, so My next pair would probably be around $300, I prefer lots of bass

Enjoy the

man. Those are your next step in headphones.

I would just use the amp that came with the STX unless you're really not getting the amplification you need, but you should be from said headphones.

You are going to have spend a good amount of money to beat the STX amp, and with your current hardware it is not your next or best upgrade, so stick with that.

As far as headphones go, what are you using right now? If bass is important, you are probably going to want to go closed back or spend a lot of money to get good bass in open cans

In all likelihood, what you have is probably already adequate, but let us know what it is and why you're unhappy with it, what you're looking for etc.

The Xonar STX's Amplifier is already good enough, although I do think there is mods that you can do to get higher sound quality...

I thought the ST's were better for higher end headphone's like the HD600's?
Time for me to revisit the STX guide at Head-Fi

They're basically the same sound card. One is PCI the other is PCI-E. The ST also has the option to add-on the 7.1 adapter.
