Need some advice and reviews on this

Thread Starter
Ok so my friend is in dire need of a new computer or laptop and she just needs it for some simple art stuff like Photoshop and such so far she has found this laptop.

Here

And she was wondering if this would be good for doing some Photoshop art work also to play mabinogi ( specs are listed on the site linked )

but yea I insisted for her to build a AMD build with that money that would last a bit longer and better performance but yea so lets hear some feedback =). Thanks in advance.

Link doesn't work.

Looks like a Turion 2 processor from what I can read out of the link.

Eh, try to get a newer CPU? Photoshop loves CPU/RAM. No idea on Mabinogi, that depends on the video card.

Good luck. Try putting the model of the laptop and the specs.

Do her a favor and DON'T let her buy it from Best Buy!!!!! Almost always cheaper online and no butthead sales help to take your money lol. Look at Newegg.com number one online retailer. Only 3 days and she be much happier. I've purchased 3 laptops from them and countless PC components/systems as well as a 40" HD TV. Never a problem.

well certainly she would do better building a desktop from a performance/price ratio...but portability is nice to have

as far as photoshop, it is somewhat simple depending on your view but it is a glutton for processing power and ram

This is not accurate. Bestbuy routinely has some of the best prices for LAPTOPS on the market. You may be confused because they really don't compete as well for desktop products in the eyes of enthusiasts. Bestbuy gets limited runs of very value oriented laptop configurations that you won't find anywhere else.

2 months ago, I bought my wife a NEW i3, 4GB, 500GB, 15.6" Toshiba for $450.

At Bestbuy.

At that same time, all similar spec laptops everywhere online were $550-650. I spent weeks scouring the net looking for the "deal" and it turned out to be at BestBuy afterall.

------------

OP:
Look at i3 based laptops over Turion/Athlon stuff. The i3 completely destroys similarly priced AMD laptops in every bench I've seen.

Best Buy sometimes have good deals. Usually of last gen technology or the low-end.

i3's aren't really considered top of the line.

If you want something more recent, Newegg is usually better.

But than it depends on what sale is running at the time.

What is acceptable for you girlfriend?

I work in a print shop and bare requirements are not "acceptable" for Photoshop (at least for me).

If you're not in a rush just keep an eye out on fatwallet or slickdeals for a good deal.

Yeah, Best Buy definitely isn't a bad place to look for laptop deals. they often sell the lower end models at a loss, because they know most people can get suckered into buying a carrying case, antivirus setup, mouse, extended warranty etc etc.

That link proves the point that these days, brick/mortar stores like bestbuy/office-depot/office-max/sams/target/walmart are competing with aggressive price points for laptops. Can you find a laptop on newegg that competes with the unit in your link?

How about this one?
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Toshiba+...&skuId=1974715
That price is WITHOUT a rebate. Cheapest thing at newegg with the same specs is 25% more expensive.
