I know it could've been repaired, but why bother when I've got a new bargain basement keyboard for $5? Now, if/when I find this mythical "perfect keyboard" that'll be a different story! I'll have enough spare parts for that to be able to fix just about anything, and make 2 more keyboards! lol

Crazy9000, as always you are a wealth of information, and I appreciate your input. The remark about the 1988 keyboard made me lol, but I have a sneaking suspicion that what I am after is probably gonna end up being something like that. Thanks for the link, I'm checking it out now.

Brown switches are 3.5mm when you press bottom out, yes, but once you learn to feel the actuation point (2mm in the middle), you will type with just enough force to pass that point.

Once you go to mech keyboards with brown switches (45g), you will find that normal keyboards are too heavy, even laptop keyboards (60g). And it will last for at least 10 years, so it is cost effective eventually.

For normal rubber dome keyboards, I agree that Logitech would be the best overall.
