Just because it might take a little power to max it out doesn't mean its Crysis 1 all over again. That said, what they've been playing around with isn't even at the beta stage yet so there's probably a lot more optimizations they are going to pull out.
I remember I had an AMD 64 3200+ for BF2, with a 9600XT. It wasn't enough, so I got my hands on an X800XT, which handled it pretty well. Lol, I just remembered that I had a 14" Dell LCD at 1024x768 back then. I eventually upgraded to a 19" Samsung LCD at 1440x900. Now a 19" screen is far too small to me for gaming. As my knowledge and interest in PCs increased over the years, so have my requirements and tastes.

So yes, BF2 was about as demanding back then as BF3 will be now. BF2 made the push for PC gamers to buy better hardware. HL2 ran very well on P4s and 6800s with 1GB of RAM. BF2 needed 2GB desperately if I remember correctly. Luckily 4GB of RAM is plenty for everything today.

Not crying. Just "only" $500. It reminds me of hearing bells and whistles of a product. And then the salesman says "only" $x at which point you're devastated.

I didn't want to crossfire, but now I'm considering it. Problem is... my board is 16x/4x in crossfire mode. Oh well. I'll just play at low/medium settings.

Hehe... I haven't played BF2 since on my rig with single core and 7600GT. Your post makes me want to try it on my new rig. Have to find it now.

BF2 PR is still hard to run. BF2 engine can't handle 600 meter view distance very well.... I struggle maintaining 60 fps on some heavy foilaged maps.
