CRT or 120hz monitor @ low input lag

Thread Starter
I'm a huge competitive FPS gamer (quakelive, cs 1.6) and my current LCD just isn't cutting it with its input lag.

Can 120hz LCD's compare with CRT's in terms of input lag? Namely the 2233rz. I read that it has somewhere around 10-15 ms input lag, is that noticeable in the slightest bit?

Ok, if you have an LCD that is worst then 10ms input lag, then you have one really bad LCD monitor.

cheap monitor on newegg.

I don't think input lag is noticeable... I mean you will be getting 120FPS, but they'll just be behind by 15ms. I have a 2233RZ and I can't notice any input lag (but the numbers for it are a little scary... 15ms). btw input lag is different from response time. 10ms is not a crazy number.

Also, LCDs don't compare to CRTs. Get a CRT!

I know input lag and response time aren't the same, but response time is one of the determining factors in your overall input lag. You have to look at mouse respond, USB polling, computer processing on top of monitor response.

so if you have a monitor that was 10ms response and you move to one with 2ms response, it will drop your overall input lag by 8ms which is a lot.

I have a razer mamba that has a response time of 1ms, with a monitor that does 5ms, so you could say that my input lag is probably around 6 to 7ms if you want to say the computer adds any amount.

get the benq xl2410 120hz, it´s supposed to bring back the CRT feeling it also has something called instant mode that completely removes input lag

i have the samsung 2233rz right now and i play alot of cs and i really dont notice input lag, im thinking of upgrading to the benq but im not sure if it´s worth it because it only has a higher resolution.

Ah ok. I believe the response time for the 2233RZ is 2ms.

I saw a graph on here somewhere showing that the BenQs input lag (in instant mode) averages around 5ms, which is 10ms better than the 2233RZ, and almost certainly first place on the chart of ten or so monitors that I saw.

Also the upgrade is definitely not worth it. If you're a srs enough gamer to get a 120Hz monitor you're playing on 1024x768 or lower. And I just don't think $10 per ms of input lag is worth it.

EDIT: here it is! and it was 16 monitors!

Just get a CRT if if that's important to you, there's always some input lag on 120hz monitors even if it's not noticable.

400DPI player here too, but I've never used a input lagless monitor for gaming so I wouldn't know what to look for. Plus, anything funky I would blame on my crappy g9. (I actually don't think it's that bad of a mouse other than the lift off distance and the weight)

There are many things that people won't notice if they aren't either trained to know what they are looking for, or actually in a situation where it matter.

so an average user isn't going to see input lag anyway. DPI doesn't change a thing with input lag. I use my mouse at 1800DPI just on the desktop, and around 4000DPI in games. But no matter what, the response time of my mouse is always 1ms, or 1000hz polling rate.
