And here come the haters. Look, don't let anyone tell you that you should not play, or that WoW is "Dead", because its not. Yes, right now WoW is undergoing a lot of change in game with the dissolution of some guild. Cataclysm not only changed the face of the in game world but also changed the face of how the guilds worked.
Just because you maxed your character does not mean its a dead game. You have not even done any Arena. Theres more than power leveling and gearing in the best gear and raiding. Perhaps another class?
Anyway, back on topic.
In order to play WoW you will need to purchase the Minimum Core
box. That will get you to the level cap of 60. Yes there is a $14.99 monthly subscription fee. In order to get from levewl 60-70 you need to purchase the Burning Crusade
expansion. This expansion will allow 2 new races, Blood Elves and Draenei. It will also open up new areas, dungeons and raids. You can usually get the Core and Burning Crusade in a Box set for about $30.
In order to get to level 80 you will need the Wrath of the Lich King
Expansion. This will again open up new raids and dungeons and new areas to explore. New class available, Death Knight(must have a level 55 character in order to make a Death Knight.) No confirmation of a Box set with Wrath of the Lich King in it as of yet.
For the most recent Expansion. Cataclysm
will allow you to level to the level cap of 85. This Expansion changed the face of Azeroth. Thus bringing new quest lines and a changed to some of the Factioned areas. New areas to explore etc. 2 more new races. Goblin and Worgen.
It all comes down to what you want to do. I have been playing WoW with my fiance for 4 years now. (Just proposed this last January) I have my own guild, which managed to survive the Cataclysm changes. I have several toons of varying classes so thatif I am not in the mood for mellee I have my casters or healers on both Alliance and Horde. WoW is constantly under going updates and changes in order to try to keep the gameplay and classes fluid and balanced(Blizzard does weekly updates on like Tuesdays I think.) Changes always tend to upset some people and appease others. Blizzard only does what they consider to be the best options for the game. Like any MMO with an average of 10 million players worldwide you are bound to have those that are not hgappy with the changes. Can't please everyone. Instead of those people trying to adjust to the changes, they complain and whine about how they wish things would go back to Vanilla(core) or they just quit. (probably like most other things in their lives.)
Don't let anyone but you make the decision whether or not to play WoW. I hope the info here was helpful. Remember that there is a $14.99 monthly subscription. If you don't pay you don't play. There are options to pay months in advance if you so choose and when you do that you do get a discount.Edited by Erick Silver - 3/2/11 at 10:34am
