I was just using MAC addresses as an example. They could use various things including MAC addresses, and it would make it harder to pirate if you are on the list. This adding of complexity and 'banlist' is what may be exactly what the PC market needs, considering this tactic works very well on the 360. It's worth a shot at the very least, but would require a fair amount of cooperation between the publishers/developers.

As for the DRM thing, it's been proven time and time again that even if a great game is released without DRM, it will be pirated to hell and back. I believe my main point with the reference to DRM was just to give people more of an example they know in that general vicinity. Perhaps I should have just said 'anti-piracy method'.

Don't buy the game and don't pirate it that's simple, especially if you're bored with it after an hour.
Let me guess, you work for the RIAA?

But if you want to play online, and most of us do now days, you'll need a legit copy
If you do then you must know little to no PC gamers. Just sayin'.

That escapist video pretty much sums up my opinion. The only situations where piracy is justified is when you are somewhere where you cannot purchase a copy or when a game is no longer sold.

If you like a game, buy it.
If you don't like a game, don't buy it or pirate it.
If you wish there was a demo, tell the developer that you didn't purchase a copy because there wasn't one. If there was a large outcry from the community about the lack of demos, and consequently a dip in sales without a spike in piracy, we would get our demos.

Video games are a luxury. You don't need them.

Won't work. Too much effort. It'd actually be easier to just make a good game.

My point is that piracy should be ignored entirely. I don't care how strict the DRM is or how good the game is, someone somewhere will not want to pay for it. It's a fact of life. People will steal anything if they're given the chance. So ignore them entirely. Pretend they don't exist. Make a good game with little-to-no DRM priced properly and you will make more money than you know what to do with, and that's all a game company exists to do. The best anti-piracy method in the world is to pretend they don't even exist and give your paying customers what they want. Because they're where your money comes from. You throw DRM on the game and/or make another bland spehhs marine game and they're not gonna want to buy it.

Seems to work fine for Valve, after all.

Of course since I'm an honest guy I must work for the RIAA, especially since I'm French and that organisation doesn't pertain to me at all.

Kinda like Valve.

See, if you make a good game and you price it right you will make more money than you know what to do with. Just look at Gabe Newell.
Pay more to develop the game, then Pay more to have someone else port it. But there's one flaw with your idea, how will you know for sure you will have a good game? What you think may be a good game, may not be a good game for someone else.

I'm an honest guy too but you don't see me preaching about how piracy is worse than genocide. Which, by the way, is seriously the vibe I get from your posts. And those of the RIAA.

Personally I don't think this rant has any valid point, of course there is piracy but there is piracy on the console just as bad. Lets just ignore that, I don't think the total downfall of gaming is due to piracy. I bet it's a huge mess of problems, all of them having about an equal amount of play. It isn't just PCs either, consoles have a LOT of crappy games out there. Halo, it was good once? I can honestly only think of a few console games I would purchase. Gears of War, CoD, LBP, ummm I'm drawing a blank but I'm sure my list would be under 10 games. How many games are released? How many CRAPPY games are released? Just because more games are released doesn't mean better games. The gaming industry has always been this way, it's just that we are now starting to notice it.

On another note, this will only get worse as you get older. The more games you play the more you will see the same story and themes pop up, it's the same with movies. You either realize that's how life is or continue thinking your getting screwed over. Which is it?

Now let's do the list: why PC gamers hate developers, and see how they match up. Guess who wins?
