im not even gonna play the demo. sure as hell not gonna judge a title like crysis2 until i play the single player.
Don't judge me......but i actually really liked the demo, aside from the obvious console stuff. Otherwise it was really epic and i will be purchasing this game on 25th March.

It seems like you are saying that the leak was the reason for the dx11 patch, rather than designing the game for dx11. If this isn't true, then correct me, but it seems like that is what you are trying to say. I don't think the PC community can be blamed for the leak as it wasn't someone like Razor1911 or Skidrow who released it, it was one of Crytek's own people. Of course people will play the leak, it is/was one of the most anticipated games ever since it's announcement.

I'm not sure if Crytek did this, but they really should have made an announcement saying that it was just a beta, and does not reflect the final release in any way other than the name/concepts.

Yeah, there is the chance that Crytek can't deliver what gamers were expecting, and that the game isn't what they thought it would be, but it should at least look similar in quality to the original and Warhead, something they have failed to do, or so it would seem.
Not the reason for the leak, but to say that it was "leaked", and that many post (especially the ones on OCN) had many a comment saying that "its not final game" so on and so forth, in the assumption that the game would be dx11. That it "was" defended at all, without knowing all the facts, I feel is the core of the raging, rather than the game as it is, for what it is.

Sorta like defending a girls honor, only to find out later, that she was stepping out behind the back all the time, as it were. She is a nice girl... maybe just a little more friendly too everyone than one had originally hoped.

The hubris, is the "confidence" that crytek would put out a superior product this cycle, rather than just a product.

Mind you I (personally) skipped the leak, and played the demo, as I felt the demo would be a better example of what the game mechanics/technology/play would be all about.

I really want to be clear (for what its worth) that my personal feelings of the game is one of positivity. It is an excellent example of the optimization and performance level that can be achieved on marginal or yesterdays hardware. A real triumph. It is not the best example of optimization and performance achievable at todays hardware level. Thats the rub, as it were.

Perhaps it is in the handling... had something along the lines of, "We wanted to reach the broadest possible audience with the best possible performance at the lowest possible (hardware) cost", it would be a sure Win in my book.

Alas, the impression I walked away with was one of being told I was entering a new age, only to find the framework of the old age tying it all together... underwhelmed, and mildly mislead. I was impressed with Crysis 1 as it really represented the state of the art, for the time, I am impressed with 2, it does the same thing, just in the opposite direction.

In a PS3 age, its like playing a really really good PS2 game. (from a pc perspective)

Ah, I see your point now, and for all intensive purposes, I agree with it.

Nice analogy

This actually made me sit back and think. I had never thought of it that way. As you say, they could be changing their marketing strategy completely: going from the best looking game to the best all-around game. I've never played the demo, and I probably wont, but this seems like where they are leaning towards right now,

Alas, the impression I walked away with was one of being told I was entering a new age, only to find the framework of the old age tying it all together... underwhelmed, and mildly mislead. I do like my graphics, in fact one could say I'm a bit of a whore when it comes to visuals (within my hardware budget of course). I think that is the majority of Crytek's original market, they had insane visuals, even by today standards but IMO the story and multiplayer is a bit lacking. As I stated earlier in my post, maybe they are focusing more on good story and multi-player, but sacrificing performance so more people will be able to enjoy the game, and so it doesn't take 10 years to make.

I think you hit on it there, a compromise between development time and viable product.

Different product, but look at Total War:Shogun2, I was ready to play the game within the first few minutes of the demo, and for all argument the platform/engine is graphically inferior to something like Crysis, but game play and polish really wowed me. I came away from a PC only title confident that I would be playing the best game in the genre, possibly, for the year.

Thing is in some ways I sorta feel as though Crytek has become a victim of their own success, setting the bar so high on the first go around, that to top the previous effort could easily result in an artist... that dies poor. Sure, they may of been loved for it, but'cha can't live on love.
