Ok so....

1. I wouldn't install any games on an SSD its a waste of space and frankly the games don't REALLY benefit from it simply because reading off the drive during a game isn't a random read/write which is what SSDs are superb at. You would however see a small load time improvement.

The x58 boards do not pass the TRIM command on SATA 3 so i would be slightly cautious as to the nature of the files you put on there. In the long run without TRIM, SSDs lose performance. TRIM isn't available on a RAID array either...with the current drivers.

SSDs work very well when you're using heavy applications that you need everyday such as graphic design/video editing etc.

But if you can spare some space for your games, why not i guess....either way your friend is wrong.

2. You need more than 1 drive to create a RAID array. You should avail yourself of the wikipedia article that quite simply explains the requirements for the various types of RAID arrays possible.

3. Simply put, RAID 0 is used purely for performance as opposed to RAID 1 which is used purely for backup. Hybrids of both are RAID 5 and RAID 10.

edit: i see im a little late to the game.

Word on the street is that SSD's are pretty damn good at sequential reads, too..

Perhaps if you had a larger SSD and could fit the entirety of your application/active gaming suite onto your disk you would change your mind, the difference is substantial.

I love all the BS and myths about SSD drives. It almost seems like the HDD manufacturers propagate them.

Anyway, listen to beers. He's basically said everything I was going to.

Also, you have the same SSD as I do and almost the same HDD as one of mine, lol. I have a Spinpoint F4 2TB tho.

AND SAME OS, OMG!

Anything can make small read/writes. Just put things you want to load quickly on your SSD, dont worry what it is.
