OCZ Reaper 1600 problem(?)

Thread Starter
Hi,
I've been having trouble "overclocking" my OCZ reaper ddr3 "1600" ram.
It's branded as 1600 @ 1.65 but shipped at 1333 @ 1.5v; no problem, just oc it to standard, right? Well, I actually can't even do so to keep it stable.

I've tried everything to get this thing to be stable whilst keeping my processor around 4.0ghz (which is probably an entirely different situation).

When I lower my FSB to 240 and set the memory clock to 6.66 for 1599 @ 1.65 and 8-8-8-24 everything is fine, that is what I'm posting with right now; but when I try 5.33 with 297 fsb for 1583 (iirc), I can't even POST.

A friend told me not to use 5.33 multiplier, but anything higher would result in me having to drop my processor clock. help?

Raise the voltage a few notches perhaps...
or the problem is not the RAM @ 297 bus clock

would it be safe to bump it up to 1.675 or even 1.7? its already colored red in the settings at 1.65, and it wouldnt even be touching 1600, 1583 is the max

I can't even find a way to get it to 1333mhz while getting to even 3.8ghz on cpu

Most DDR3 1600 hit a wall about 285 to 300.

This might be a dumb question, but lets say I did 270 or something and used 5.33 for the memory clock, giving me 1439; how would i adjust my voltage and timings accordingly for that? I mean voltage would just be a trial-and-error, but I know absolutely nothing about timings.

Lower them to compensate for the lower speed
Once again more of a trial-and-error thing

Alright, but I mean between what it is shipped with (9-9-9-30) and what its supposed to be (8-8-8-24) which do I loosen (or tighten? im unfamiliar with which is which)? Something like 9-9-9-24? Or 8-9-8-27? Again, sorry for the dumb questions; I'm about to try these out, but ill be checking here on my laptop while i do so in case someone can give me some advice.

Thanks for everything so far

Tighten them all, go as far as you can.

Well, that was scary.

I tried alot. I fiddled around 1400~1500mhz at 1.5-1.635v with 8's and 9's and 27's and 24's and even auto 9-9-9-30 and nothing worked. Finally, I decided maybe i would just try for 250 fsb and go 1666 mhz with 1.665v and that completely screwed something up. I had to remove the cmos just to get it working again; Thankfully it works now, but i had to go back down to 3.6ghz/1599mhz just to be safe.

So, could you (or anyone else ) possibly recommend some ram that would allow me to achieve an overclock somewhere in the range of/above 4.0ghz? this board supports up to 1833 (OC)

Sigh; I should have just settled for a 965 be. : (
