GTX570 stock Heatspeader + aftermarket Heatsink

Thread Starter
Hi there, registered here to ask this question. There doesnt seem to be threads about this ANYWHERE.

I want to keep the heatspreader plate on my gtx570 and use just the heatsink of the Zalman VF3000N. (I know the 3000F is newer, but I wont be using the Ram sinks included and the heatsink it self seems exactly the same- by weight)... and the N is cheaper!

So my question is, can the plate fit under the heatsink and will the mounting holes be accessible with the plate on.

I was going to do this with my 5850 then chickened out, but 65% duty cycle with stock fan sucks.

Sorry for long post...

First off, welcome to OCN.

Secondly, that's not possible. You mean the heatspreader for your ram right? If so, no.

wow quick post, thanks.

Ya, I mean the stock ram + vrm heat spreader.

http://i.neoseeker.com/neo_image/183...TX_570/GPU.jpg

I could prob dremel away around the GPU to fit the heatpipes of the VF3000.

If this isnt possible can you tell me why?
thanks

water cooling is kinda out of my budget... VF3000 = ~R450, WC > R 1k (R7 = $1)

Although it wouldn't be my first choice but you could look at just a GPU block rather a full card blockm you should still be able to use the factory heat spreader for the memory.

This should be a good amount cheaper.

Regardless, good luck, hopefully you can make something work.

I cut up the stock 470 plate to use with my AXP and will be doing the same thing to my 570 in a couple weeks. Assuming the AXP and VF mount up the same way, this is where I think the 570 will need to be cut (arms connecting to PCI bracket and a couple places the fan shroud attaches to):

My only concern is that the stock plate is FLAT. The 470 had ridges on the plate that increased surface area for better cooling. Im curious how much cooling power is lost.

What temps are you getting with the AXP on 470? Was considering that,
or will just wait for an official 570 cooler

61C loaded down from 80C+ on stock- completely silent in comparison. Should be even better on the 570.

should work alright, if not pretty sure it comes with some vmem heatsinks
( if not their about $5 for a pack of 7 or 8 and should work better then the heatspreader i think )
