The 500GB F3 is faster than the 500GB WD black.

The highlighted unit is the WD:

Probably when bulldozer arrives . Which is believed by many to be april, but can ofc be later as they've only officially said Q2 2011.

And just so you know, MSI have said that their 8XX MB will support AM3+ with a bios update (iirc), but will not have all the features of "real" AM3+ boards (9XX series).

+this. Heres the deal, whatever I can give her I get to upgrade in mine I am sure she will end up with a 460 or a 6850 later on down the road. I have a buyer lined up for her old hp for 275 which will include the 8800gt. So technically I am only paying like 225-250 for a BRAND NEW setup even if it only is an 80% increase it will have an aftermarket case and heatsink which I can OC a little bit. Right now the stock amd heatsink is retarded loud.

This is why I was asking which mb would support it but I guess it is too early to tell. Not really a MSI guy but I might look into it.

I wish asus would announce they were supporting am3+ with a bios update

If he already has a gtx 260 a gts 450 would be a downgrade. I was giving him upgrade options.

Okay everything was ordered and believe it or not I found the Storm Scout cheaper at RADIOSHACK! Free 3 day shipping to the store and I can pick it up for right around 82 and some change including tax. *Edit, well a couple of days ago shipping was 9.99 from newegg I guess its not as good of a deal but a couple bucks off anyways.

I have a dilemma though, she will be gaming in 1900x1080 and I don't think the gtx 260 will cut it. Is there anything under $175 that will provide better performance than the 260? I am not very familiar with ati cards and could use some suggestions. Rep will be given!

I think I might wait out for a MSI GTX560ti open box from newegg. They seem to be the best value. Anyone else have any input about ATI cards?

What makes you feel this way? The GTX260 is a strong card.

Lots of people game at HD and higher resolution on cards with less performance than a 260 and get great FPS at reasonable settings. The GTS450/250 and HD5750/5770 are still very popular with gamers (all lesser performing than a GTX260). Many people who own them are chugging along happily. I think it's worth giving the GTX260 a chance first. In the mean time, prices on good cards will just keep falling.

Make a list of games you will be playing, pick out the few "most demanding" then go look at benchmarks for those games for the following cards:

HD5830
HD5850
HD6850
GTX460 1GB (ideally a factory OCed edition)

Balance performance to prices you find available on those cards. They are all faster than the GTX260. I would personally go for the 5850 if you can fit it in your budget. (probably because in the back of my mind I know it would make a better BOINCing card )

The 6850 and 5850 can both be found now for around the $175 price range. The 5850 may be a few dollars more but can hit the ~$175 mark with a MIR now.

If you go ATI/AMD, the best buy would be the HD6950 1GB. superior to the 560Ti and for a similar (slightly expensive) price.

I would like her to be able to play on a higher res screen (full hd) I would like this to be future proof that she would be able to upgrade to bulldozer if by chance it is am3 compliant and use USB 3.0.

Just some background, she plays WOW, The Witcher, Dragon Age, and other RPGs and would like to get into more graphic intense games.

Here are the parts we already have.
