i7 920 and 5970..

Thread Starter
before 2 months i had Intel c2q q8300 and 5970.. The motherboard was crappy too.. Gigabyte p31.. and in games i had very low frame rates.. for example in Splinter cell conviction i had about 10-25 fps.. that's very low.. and i didn't know why... then somebody told me that its cpu problem.. and i sold it.. now i am wondering about i7 920.. if i will buy it, i wouldn't be having the same low fps problem? Will i7 920 fix the problem..? I am sorry for my bad english..

Your Core 2 Quad 8300 isn't the greatest CPU in the world, but your system should have had no trouble running most games out there. I don't think the issue was the CPU.

PCI Express 2.0 is pretty much irrelevant.

If you want some kind of comparison, I have an i7 920 and a 5970 and I have played Splinter Cell Conviction and I cant remember the exact FPS but i know if was much more than 25fps and smooth.

possibly.
I would recommend holding off on a major upgrade until the next gen AMD stuff come out, or just going with sandy bridge.

the 920 is no way a bottle neck for a 5970... if anything the bottleneck is the 5970 not the 920.

upgrading from a 920 to Sandy Bridge would be a complete waste.

I don't think that he has the i7 920 yet.

OP: I would go for one of the sandy bridge cpus, or if possible wait for the new amd lineup.

Ya I was wondering the same thing.... but the conclusion is no different
Correct me if I am wrong but my correct statement wasn't incorrect was it?

Not my fault:
A) hard to read
B) he adds parts to his sig that he doesn't own

I am sorry for you if you are just trying to find something to argue with me about.
