Highest I can go OC'ing - M4A79XTD EVO?

Hey,

Bought this board yesterday and it shall be here tomorrow, it's heatsinked, 8+2 Phase and 140W capable, is 140W its absolute max? Or am I able to take it any further than that?

Cheers

If you OC a 140W CPU, or a 125W Phenom II X4 for instance, you will soon break the 140W barrier, so yeah, it will go higher. A 4GHz Phenom II X6 1090T can reach 190W on full load, but with that board you might be safe, just check your boards temps, and don't feed the CPU with unnecessary volts.

140W means that it is compatible with the AMD CPUs that are meant for 140W *without OCing. You can always go higher.

It's a nice board btw.

Good to hear it from someone who has the board, got it for £51 on B-grade missing a few cables, absolute steal.

Cheers people, max OC I do will probably take about 180W, probably less though since 3.8GHz is a pisstake to get stable on this chip.

Does this board let you adjust CPU-NB/HT multiplier? Is it set manually?

Edit: Sorry to hijack a bit, I'm about to pick this up, and I'd love to know what it's capable of

vDroop may make it a bit tough but that hasn't stopped most people.

From what I've seen on mine, my vcore setting in BIOS is lower than what is reported. Setting it at 1.375v, for example, showed 1.402v in both the BIOS system monitor and CPUz. I didn't get much of a chance to play with it, since I had to RMA my CPU shortly after getting it all put together, so I may have had some sort of CPU overvoltage setting enabled somewhere.

I'm having Vcore spikes with mine. I have BIOS set to 1.525 and all my monitoring software reads 1.53-1.56. It fluctuated like this on stock volts as well. I'm working with ASUS to try and resolve the issue.
