[BBC] Ofcom wants to ban misleading broadband speed ads - Page 2

What I pay for? 2/2MBs.
What I officially get? 24/3MBs.
What I really get? 11/2MBs.

A nice special arrangement, I must say. When I considered changing to some other provider, they upgraded my connection without extra fees to keep me with them
Damned old wiring, cutting off about half of my downstream...despite this, I can't really complain as I still get 5.5x the downstream I'd normally have for this price.

OK, since some of you guys seem to not know about this, lemme explain...
ISPs advertise megaBITs per second, not megaBYTEs, so divide the speed advertised by 8 and you get your "real" speed. I pay for 12mb/s, i get roughly 1.5MB/s, with short bursts up to 1.7MB/s. This is exactly what i pay for, and it's exactly what i get... btw these are speeds reported by utorrent with real-world files, speedtest reports over 2MB/s

I hate megaBITS. They've used this trick to fool unknowing customers. Speeds should only be shown in MegaBYTES/s or KB/s.

I guess that would depend on how much you $$$. Everyone should get what they pay for.
Time of day, peak hours. Is your money worth more at a certain time of day? No its not. Speedtest.net can store your results as long as you keep the same ip.

You can use those results to prove your not getting what your $$, if you need to. I have. There is a button at the top [your results].

For some reason I now don't like you

I don't really see how saying 'up to xx' is misleading. You can get up to the speed, you aren't guaranteed it.
