noob build query to the experts - Page 2

rock on, i might just be honing in on something here finally.

but, to be a devil's advocate and put forth a blasphemous concept, why should i go to all the trouble of building this system, when for the same price i can snag the dell zino hd mini-pc? i assume the main drag is i'm then owning a proprietary box not anywhere near as easy to work on/upgrade in the future, not unlike my existing "use an old laptop" scheme? building my own it also looks like many of the components are coming with 36 month warranties, dell is only a one year, extra $50 to go two years, exra $80 to go three...

The Dell has a lesser CPU, prob a lesser mobo*, god knows what kind of power supply, , brandless, slower RAM, no satisfaction from building your own, as you said, "propriety fittings" etc., worse graphics card.

Also, if you own a Dell, when you actually know enough to build your own PC, you lose 2 man cards and 3 OCN look-at-me cards**

How much is the Dell?

*pretty much guaranteed

the system itself is $599, then they bend me over backwards for shipping, handling and tax (WHY am i paying tax???) at it tops out at a shade short of $700

if i go with the silverstone case and corsair psu i save a bit over $40

if i go back to the apevia x-master case and psu, i save $100

either way i'd save my manhood

Save money / manhood and get a better system when you avoid Dell... obvious choice is obvious.

I don't think there's that much between the cases. The PSUs will be worlds apart though. For $40 (or is it $60?) difference, I'd get the Silverstone / Corsair.

anyone have any reasons why hooking in this usb ir receiver would NOT allow my logitech harmony 620 to turn on and off the pc along with the tv and tuner?

i wish someone would build the logitech universal remote with a mouse built in....
