I wouldn't use it. It has much less functionality than a netbook/laptop for the same price.

1. Will it work with other non-apple people? The Skype, Yahoo, and Fring apps (all are free btw) do work with non-apple customers and take advantage of the video chat
2. It's kinda dumb the notion of taking pictures and videos with iPad... "HOLD ON! Let me bust out my iPad for this group photo op!" I can think of a few professions where the ability to instantly take/display/edit/send photos on a larger screen would be very useful (Architect, interior designer, etc)
3. Photobooth... I mean, do people still get entertained by this? My face is pretty ugly to start with, and I don't need any help making it uglier. Some people enjoy it, and it's not a requirement to use it when using an iPad, to each their own
4. I never understood the front facing cams... I don't need to be reminded of how ugly I am, unless I am video chatting with even uglier person, which then it might make me feel better... You may not understand it, but it's the same concept as a webcam on a laptop/desktop. A lot of companies are now using iPads because they are more convenient for people to carry around and can be used anywhere where there is WiFi (usually companies have WiFi through their entire office building) so with cameras, the prospect of mass video conferencing does become a possibility.
5. I don't like video chatting with people, unless there is a possibility that I am chatting with a very attractive female, and there is a possibility of her being topless. I just don't see myself going... "HEY! DUDE! Let me Vchat with you because I wanna see your face!" Again this is your preference, but many people get enjoyment out of using it. Family members seeing each other long distance, overseas for military families, etc. I know, for example, that I was very happy to see my new baby cousin in the nursery at the hospital when he was born (my uncle and myself both have iPhone 4's) and it would have been even better seeing it on a larger screen, especially when the rest of my family wanted to see as well and we had to pass around my phone. Would have been nicer to just set up an iPad at the dining room table and let everyone sit around the table and see. Again the possibilities are quite numerous.

Is it cool to clap at your own comments?
In short, yes I would love an iPad 2. I have used the 1st gen and love it, wish I could have afforded one, but will be saving my money for 2nd gen.

Hmmm...the iPhone first came out in....2007....it's now 2011...and we are just now seeing stiffer competition for the iPhone...don't quite follow ur logic when Apple had a huge market share for 4 years and is still going strong despite Android....and with the prospects that have been talked about for iPhone 5, i don't see that changing anytime soon.

Definition of original would be an adjective describing something that's the first of it's kind. I would say the iPad qualifies as such. And yes, it's only common sense that "original" would wear off when other companies start trying to compete with similar ideas. Because then it would no longer be the first and only one of its kind. Pay attention to the language you're using, because you're only reaffirming the point that the iPad (and Apple's other products such as the iPod and the iPhone) were/are indeed original when they first came out, until other companies saw their success and started copycatting and trying to beat them at their own game (and failing miserably, i might add). Case in point: Microsoft Zune. Tried to do the same things as an iPod Touch and how much did it bomb on the market? Completely. All Apple-bias aside, you cannot deny they make great quality products. Expensive most times? Yes. But you get what you pay for. And their products last. Time and again more than the competitions' do.

For those that don't have a digital camera, don't have a nice phone camera, or simply want the convenience of not having to carry all that stuff with you, maybe it's not such a bad solution.

Maybe if you weren't so ugly you'd enjoy taking pictures.

Maybe if you weren't so ugly and if you weren't such an asshat pig, girls would like you and you would want to video chat with them.

Not when your comments suck.

How is it gimmicky?

They have been pretty original as of late. The reason their competition is coming LATER than them is because they're ORIGINAL and coming out with ideas first.

So far the closest competitor is a Xoom and costs like double the price? Sorry, but I don't care how much you love Android, it's not worth 800 dollars. When you can get an iPad for 3-400 cheaper.

It has the cool factor and imo, more mobility than a notebook. I know notebooks are small and stuff, but I would much rather carry around an ipad than a notebook.

In short, if I didn't have 1500 dollars of audio equipment on my list of stuff to buy, I would get an ipad rather than a Xoom.

And yes, I have an Android phone and love it.
