[EG]New COD engine "counter-productive" - Page 13

AS long as the main platform it is developed for is console, we'll never see the actual power of that engine, if it has any power left anyway. And I doubt Activision is going to bother to develop their games for pc as a lead platform.

Wow, seriously? I can't believe this is like their 5th game on the same engine, and soon a 6th game; and they still won't develop a new engine.
IW is a Lazy Dev. Confirmed.

You are completely not understanding what the difference is, you could use source to make a game that looks IDENTICAL to MW2, is almost nothing to do with how it frickin looks (with the exception of the way the light is rendered).
The fact that all you care about is how nice the textures and models are shows that you dont even have the slightest idea what a game engine is.

There were also maps that looked like this

and this

and this

I like how you chose one of the simplest competition maps to "prove" your point that MW2 is better than a game made 6 years ago. The models and textures may be better but that doesnt mean anything.
^This. I don't think Heret|c knows what a game engine is. You can easily make amazing models with beautiful textures and import it into the source engine. How good a game looks != better game engine....

EDIT2:
Also, please quote everything I said, not just the part that makes it look like I'm contradicting myself.

Are you trying to say a game from 2004 doesn't look as good as one from 2009? If so you're deductive skills are amazing, nice work you proved something my 10 year old sister could have told me.
Not only that, but hes comparing a huge production game to a game that was just a mod of another game!

HL2 was a game

CSS was just a mod they came up with for people that wanted a competition fps

I have experience mapping in Source for both CS and L4D and I can tell you that there are huge differences in the engine within that time period, and on top of that the quality of the textures and models have improved dramatically.
Even still L4D isnt loaded with lots of crap because of how the game plays.

I'm sure a quick search of OCN will turn up quite a few posts, with some familiar faces behind the screen.

Just like the first HL they made a trilogy, what does that have to do with this? It was essentially one game, one story. Not only that, but they put all 3 games together, with 2 other excelent games (Portal and Team Fortress) and sold it for one low price.

This is different, this is making another stupid version of the same game over and over, and selling it over and over for 60 bucks to retarded frat boys.

Half Life has always been like a Independent art film, loved by critics and intelligent people for having an amazing story and dynamic gameplay.
Meanwhile other films are box office hits with the idiotic masses who just want to stick their thumb in their ass and eat popcorn for 2 hours while theyre assaulted by explosions, poor acting, and a formulaic hollywood ending. That way they can take a break for their sad, meaningless lives without the troublesome issue of having to think or feel anything. Thats COD.

ITT: Butt hurt PC gamers.

Console games sell, they will keep milking them.
I personally bought Black Ops. Never touched the Single Player mode, I only play the multiplayer.

PC gaming is way too expensive to actually get enjoyment out of.
With a console you pay one set price, and you're off to the races and don't have to worry about upgrading this or that.

Sure the graphics aren't OMG111!!!! on consoles, but they still look good enough to have an enjoyable experience.

Counter productive to raking in the money and monopolizing.
Look at Dice, they are probably going to make tons off the BF3's innovation. People are excited about the new game.

It's devs like that that stagnate progression.

Not everything is about graphics. Gameplay and mechanics take a back seat also when an engine isn't revised. Nevermind graphics, it's still the same old run around and kill without any type of technical improvements.
