they cant upgrade the engine cuz the console are not enough strong for better graphics
so why they ll waste there time for the pc comunity?
we are not enough to be profitable so it s the way it go

nvidia and amd/ati should sponsort the game more than they do to get better games on pc whit graphics that console cant have

some time i dont understand why i pay to get a good pc to get the high end tecnologie when only a few games came out in dx11...
sry for the off topic part

i did say game engines take years to develop, i never said infinity ward developed the current engine they are using for COD, but that shouldn't matter, there are plenty of games out there that are developed that do not use in house made engines, it is the point of a engine. there are companies out there, all they do is make an engine and then license it to other developers to use.

there are actual very few "complete" engines out there, most of them are augmented with other engines. i honestly believe you would be hard pressed to find a game that uses engines developed a 100% in house.

now as for the IW engine, they might as well have developed it, as they've kept updating it all this time, since id tech 3 (which it is based on) is no longer updated or maintained by id software, in fact the engine has been released as gpl (a free open source license) but the engine does offer dual license, so you can keep your in house changes to it, without releasing your IP out to the general public (and these forms of license cost tens of thousands of dollars, if not millions.)

Would it be so hard to add battle chatter in the multiplayer. guys screaming grenade, or im hit, etc. It helps to put you into the game.
there is a simply remedy i will offer here, that will save you money, and add years to your life so you aren't always so "angry" at the gaming world. don't play the game. it doesn't appeal to you, its not your style of game play, you expect more out of it, thats fantastic little buddy, thumbs up for you.

seriously, just cause you don't like how it is progressing, doesn't mean the millions who do purchase it, play it and like, are wrong for liking how it is. and yo dog, my boy Ice-T aint wrong either about COD! (read his gameinformer interview, this is probably a unneeded comment but i like to go with the crowd, as there are a lot in this thread.)

again, you didn't really read what i wrote? is there some sort of elitist/fanboi add-on for Firefox that only highlights in pink/yellow what you want to read into in a thread?

yippy i get to quote myslef:

Quote:
9 to 11 on dx are fairly similar, coding for one, is about as easy as coding for the other. they don't radically change the way you program for one in the other, or it would severely break compatibility.
they are similar, and coding something in dx9 isn't to hard to recode for in dx10/11...and i did use compatibility incorrectly here, but i'm able to admit my mistakes, i should've made a statement how it would impact learning of the changes and features, if they completely redid them with each version.

and for the record, i've never installed dx9 on my computer, if an update or a game i've installed snuck it in without my knowing, oh well, it wouldn't be the first time things have ended up on my system with out my expressed permission, but that is another argument for another thread. and again, it was wrong of me to say that you can run dx9 games with dx11.

my words of advice to you is to learn some facts before you go on a rant.
yes i'm sure EA will prevent that from happening...

and my words of advice to you friend, learn some facts as well. i honestly don't have all the answers, my main gripe about this thread, was about the elitism on this forum when it comes to games, and how people react. so i messed up some information, here crucify me if you want, i'll admit i was wrong on some of it.

its as simple as designing an a new engine while you are still using the old one.

you dont really think that frostbite 2.0 got designed in less than a year since bc2 release do you.

the idea that a mega smash hit company doesnt have the time or resources to work on newer and better engines to continue to create multi million seller games is laughable. Absolutely laughable.

anyone who doesnt see this as them trying to cover up for their lack of interesting updates to their engine and gameplay.

its as simple as they got caught with their pants down by frostbite 3 and this is the only thing they could really do to counter it. Which isnt much.

exactly. you build an engine for future games, while you are still using the old one.

As you use an engine, you learn its limits and then build the new one to push things further. COD hasnt pushed their engine in years.

Five simple points:
  1. Game engines are extremely hard to write.
  2. Of the big fps companies, the ones that run their own engines that they built from scratch started working on them many years ago. (Epic, Crytek, iD, Square Enix, DICE, Capcom). Of them, afair only Crytek started working on engines after the turn of the millenium. There is a lot of expertise bundled up in those companies - and when you see a new engine from any, you've seen a whole lot of dev time. There has been a 4 year gap between Cryengine 2 and 3, DICE has been working since 2005 or so on frostbite, Epic have been going for years on Unreal 4.
  3. IW has never written its own engine. It doesn't have the expertise that goes with writing game engines.
  4. The engine they have is visually impressive, and whilst the BSP model suits it to pre-scripted levels, they seem to be pretty good at making scripted games.
  5. Why would they have an incentive to make a new engine? CoD gameplay seems to be pretty widely recommended even though it isn't game changing - and why change a solid formula? Evolution, not revolution. Even if a game engine is slightly outdated, why build a new engine from scratch? When Valve started with the code that now makes up Source, it looked like this

and now it looks like this:

When IW started out with their engine, it looked like this:

and now it looks like this:
