And this is why I don't take CoD seriously. I understand not wanting to change a winning formula and all, but after 4 game releases (the upcoming makes 5) based on the same engine with the only discernible differences between them being skins and sounds, I think that it's time for a new engine. But I guess they don't have to, anything they release will sell in record numbers at this point, no matter what.

If it was a good engine, like Source, then yes, they could keep refining it for years.
Unfortunately ist not a good engine, that is painfully obvious from the gameplay.

Its good enough for retarded frat boys and 13 year old boys who cant talk to girls, so why spend money making a better engine if the primary audience is happy with it?

What if you dont suck ass but its still not fun?
I played enough MW2 that I could more than hold my own online, I still think its crap.
Tw34k was a hell of a lot better than me, Ive personally seen him get tactical nukes on multiple occasions, he thinks its crap.

The average console consumer does not care or even know anything about game engines, dx11, AA, good graphics or anything that has to do with game development.

They only care about: "can I play online? is it a good game? how many of my friends have it? Are there tubes in the game?"

COD is the Apple computers of the video game world. "everyone has is so it must be good". So they just continue to put out mediocre games on old engines because the general consumers eat that stuff up.


Unfortunately the motto is: "Don't fix it (or make it better) if it aint' broken"

CoD MW2 was perfect. It doesn't need super high graphics. I am glad that I can max it on my sig rig and get 60fps on my craptop. To a developer, the ability to run on slower systems is just as important as being able to run with awesome graphics.

Remeber how Crysis couldn't be run on Consoles? Well, they ported Crysis 2 to PCs cuz of that. I'm happy with this CoD Engine. The Black Ops one, on the other hand, won't even run on some full blown C2Ds..
