Gigabyte superb 720w powering Gtx 480

Thread Starter
hey guys! first post in this section smile.gif

okay here's the deal: i built a system for my cousin about six months ago.. and i'm wondering if the psu is sufficient for his system.

the specs are the following:
PSU Gigabyte superb 720 w 80+ certified
Cpu I5 760
Mobo Gigabyte Ga-p55-ud3r
Gpu Asus Gtx 480
case Cooler master cm 690 "3×120 mm fans hooked up"
1 HDD + 1 Dvd drive

why i bought this psu for the system? because he was on a hurry and he didn't even let me check online for reviews on that psu.

i'm posting this because with this supersonic thing that comes with nvidia, it kinda lags sometimes when the frames drop to around 30 although it's 60 most of the time.

Thats more than enough juice.

480 GTX at full load uses 450 watts, everything else in that system in another 125 watts. He's more than fine. Thats about 575W at full load

are you sure? so no need to get a more powerful one? and what about the amps on the rails thing? is it enough for the Gtx 480? also i forgot to mention the i5 is overclocked to 3.6 currently and may take it further.

Edit: i also forgot to mention they say online that that psu is only 610W continuous power

Actually that chart seems to be full system consumption. There is no way the card pulls that much, now the new AMD 6990 that was announced recently is a 450w card. Anyways OP you are far from stressing it out though I haven't looked up the PSU in particular. Stressing it out would be like running two 480s.

Yeah I didnt realize the the 450 watts full load was the the whole system, thought that was kinda high. Your more than fine.

http://www.overclock.net/system.php?i=33640 - stasio is running a a sandy bridge oc to 5mhz with no problems similar video card 2.

Yes, like I said you arguably have enough room for another stock 480GTX. Don't worry about overclocking the single 480GTX as the PSU isn't going to hold you back.
