Lockdown 2 cores of a 1090T x6?

So my question is as the title states. Would locking down 2 cores to make it a 4 core help in keeping the temps down when OC'ing? Just a thought.

yes it would lower the temps as it would lower the TDP. 6 cores @ 4Ghz= more heat then 4 cores @ 4Ghz

Yes. but buying a hex-core and locking 2 core's defy's the logic of purchasing a hexcore in the first place..

yes your temp's will be lower.

lower temp, lower power, and longer life if 2 cores die maybe you can use the other 2 as backup?

eh that depends. If you are working on a record OC for a program that can only use 4 cores then it would actually be smarter to buy a hex that is 125w TDP vs a quad that is rated @ 125W TDP. The hex with only four active cores would prob be closer to 95W TDP hence giving a better OC in theory.

Maybe I should have worded it more like:
would a x6 with 2 cores locked down run cooler than a x4 at the same speed.

Low TDP chip's do not overclock as well as a higher TDP permutation..

GEt a 965 X4 and call it a day.
