Crosshair IV Extreme and OCZ Fatal1ty Edition 1333Mhz

Thread Starter
I have a question for the RAM pros out there. I am working on acquiring all my new parts for my next rig.

I am considering getting some new RAM, but unsure if it is even necessary.

OCZ Fatal1ty Edition 1333Mhz
CL 9-9-9-20
1.7v

Above is the stock speeds and voltage of the RAM.

Motherboard will be a Crosshair IV Extreme and AMD 965 BE OC 4.0~

EDIT *****I just checked the QVL for that motherboard and it's not on it...I guess I will just have to buy some new RAM.

Is this RAM worth keeping and overclocking?

Extremely EXTREMELY EXTREMELY BAD CHOICE.
Generic settings requiring a full .2V above what any generic setting kit should ONLY and strictly require!
Don't even try.
Get rid of it. Now.

Hahaha. That's what I figured...

You seem to be the RAM guru around here. So....

G.SKILL ECO Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) x 2 is compatible with my motherboard. Good choice?

Look and see if you can get some Gskill Flares. dont buy anything under 1600Mhz or anything over 1.65v

Also you might want to ask the people in the Crosshair MB owners thread as they have first hand experience with the board

Valid point. I will toss up a thread to get some feedback.

If this is the CL7-8-7 one, it is a great choice!
2000 CL9 not worth it over the ECOs - they cost the same and don't perform any better. 1600 CL6-7 will actually outperform 2000 CL9 on benchmarks on AMD. The quality/overclockability is exactly the same. The RAM fan is an unnecessary item.

The ones linked in the previous thread are CL9. ECOs seem to be the way to go and they are reasonably priced as well.
